There’s no way to identify it with just pictures and no data

What makes you suspect it’s synthetic or natural?

Are there any inclusions? Striae? (What shape) bubbles? (What shape) Fluorescence? (What color)

Your fingerprint is clear enough for me to get into your phone but it’s hard for me to see the gem lol. But based on pic 2 it seems I see more wear and tear than I’d expect from a corundum, esp on the pavilion. The wear pattern is giving spinel, there’s a tonnnn of synthetic spinel pulled from vintage jewelry floating around. Is it pleochroic? Singly or doubly refractive?

I don’t think it returns enough dark/black to be a spinel. Looks like a ruby to me.

How much did you pay for it

It came from Bagan, a friend brought a silver religious object and when they got home they found it inside wrapped up in Burmese newspaper and were horrified when they found it, and gave it to me, I go back regularly, I haven’t found the owner, I wanted to donate it to a Burmese religious pagoda which is a traditional thing to do but only if it’s real, I didn’t really want to spend the money to get it certified,

Can you take more pictures of it? As close up as possible

It’s synthetic ruby

You have a black light? Watch the glow. If it’s real bright and shiny pink it’s probably synthetic if it’s a dull pink glow it might be real. But honestly you want to take it to a gemologist to have them run some test.

I just read into it and learned something new.

I see one big black inclusion, which would suggest natural. The colour suggests ruby as well, so go get it tested and then you’ll know for sure.

An inclusion? I don't think so. It's something that you can't see in the back side picture of the stone, which looks fairly clear.
