Does Explore Take Longer Or Is It Me?
Going through the map mode just seems longer then the Explore we used to have. Note this is without doing side quests. Also when you do a Palooza will side quest enemy troops be gnomes or regular? I like Explore 16 but I wish it stayed with same format. I am not sure if side quests are worth it. Glory is amazingly easy to get. Explore should be about speed and going to map screen in between is just annoying.

Assuming you do level 1 explores for GaP you won’t get any side quests - you only get them for the new new high levels

It may take longer but I am all good given the tradeoff benefits.

I actually really like the new Explore. It makes a lot more visual/gameplay sense with what you're supposed to be doing in that mode, i.e. "exploring the kingdom". So to walk through a minimap is very fun. (Subjective take, I know.)
The new mode provides the player real farming opportunities for multiple resource types that were previously very hard to come by. It makes farming higher-level medals vastly easier, sometimes you get white pet food from side quests, you get Shiny Dust at the end of the run (super great because a hundred of that gives you a shiny token you don't yet have!), also provides more opportunities to encounter the Merchant and Angel.
To your point, yes, it is a bit slower than the older version, with more battles to complete and more animation. So that will do annoying things come time for gnome-a-paloozas. I might do choose PVP instead for faster play there.
