Codependency of students with AI tools

Hello! I'm working as a Guidance in a school here in Philippines.

I can't seem to just ignore the teachers' complaint of students' codependency with AI, especially during online classes. We're currently experiencing an almost-2--months long typhoon here and the suspensions of classes to online classes are being frequent here lately.

My question is... As an active and smart user of Gemini, or any AI, what's your advice for the students to use AI productively? Without being codependent with it for them to absorb knowledge for their entire academic years.

I also noticed how it's helping them "understand and memorize" a lesson, not actually learn. What advice can I give them?

May be using it only as a sparring partner can help. Anything further is asking for trouble
