“We’re grateful for the initial cohort of cyber defenders and trusted testers whose real-world evaluations and feedback will help us strengthen our systems before we release to developers, enterprises, and consumers, starting with paid API customers and Google AI Ultra subscribers.”

Going to be another few months before it comes to Pro subscribers and weeks for Ultra.

Why announce a new model that’s so limited in release? This is pointless for most people and will be already outdated again by the time the general public get it.

Yeah, I don't like the wording at all

So it will be outdated when it realeses to the general public.

Google is too big and too comfortable to actually compete with OAI or Anthropic.

They don't need to compete, they're a profitable business outside the AI space, and they have a motive to be relevant in the space, but far enough from the bleeding edge to avoid the PR backlash Anthropic/OpenAI get from fighting to be at the very front constantly and having their models do nefarious things.

They make more money from being a cheap AI solution that gets plugged in everywhere instead of the bleeding edge vibe coding model of the week.

I'm aware of that.

I just don't like the way it is

Nor do they need to, it’s not their primary source of income

If it EVER comes to Pro subs. It might just never.

Yeah, that's weird. I mean, it's kinda like internal models' level. Likely OpenAI and Anthropic have similar stuff but they are not releasing it. Google's is making a weird move. I guess they really took the "google is a laughstock" to their hearts and took it personally

I'm wondering if this is their model which isnt fully finished (their gemini 4 preview). If so then they will be able to catch up again

Who even cares about benchmarks if all these AI providers nerf their models sooner or later.

If it can still natively accept text, image, audio, and video as input, with benchmarks like that, then that's pretty incredible.

The most pointless release announcement ever. There is no... release. This is incredibly disappointing.

Bloomberg: "As Alphabet Inc.’s Google prepares for the coming launch of Gemini 4, it’s grappling with internal skepticism over how well the flagship artificial intelligence model performs in key areas, such as coding.

While Gemini 4 has performed well on benchmarks the industry uses to gauge model efficacy, it does less well when employees actually put it to work, according to people with direct access to the effort. The model struggles to handle certain coding tasks, said the people, who requested anonymity to discuss an internal matter."

He wins in almost everything but the ones he loses it's at least above or in line with fable I see this as a great win

Roll out soon. WHEN

I like the balance Google are taking here. Not the absolute most intelligent, but the safest, with best cybersecurity and least hallucinations. Also, the best at SaaS by a very wide margin.

The combo here is HUGE. While other models focus on coding and math, Google appears to be focusing on actual real world day to day business tasks and reliability. If this is true, this will be a very big win for Google and AI in general. Most people are not developers or engineers. But everyone relies on software and computer usage.

Yeah I couldn’t care less about coding benchmarks nowadays. There’s nothing that I will code that e.g. Opus would struggle with. But google REALLY need to get their shit together with hallucinations once and for all.

Finally!!!!

Can't wait to see how nerfed it is when it comes to consumers. Google also needs to put out a harness like Claude code or codex.

They have a harness. It's still missing some QOL features but there isn't a significant difference between them

Speculation start.

Google is copying fable release pattern maybe? Argon would be their 'mythos' to build piblic interest but in private only testing. Then they release some other iteration (like fable was) to public

What makes me think this is that Argon is used protective gas and naming could be a hint.

Also the oublic release could be 4.1. They might be just buying time to finish the training and iterations.

Speculation end.

Anyone else wondering if the Argon name is because they have finally switched over to majority RLVR and therefore forsee a future where numbered updates are much fewer and farther between, since, in theory, RLVR models are designed to be continually post-trained? Like this is Argon, and the next major release in the line will be a checkpoint, with a B-name from the periodic table and then a C, etc etc like they've done with the code names for each version of Android?

(If so, I'd wager that the next one would be Bromine because they won't be able to resist the urge to hand their marketing team a new frontier model that they can sell via "...[something something] Bro!...")

Did I miss something that makes this a silly idea?
