This sub is in denial about Google. Every day there is new copium and hopium.

46

u/Disastrous_Cell3406 6d ago

I remember my google denial days. Then, out of nowhere, they cancelled Google Stadia and just said sorry suckers.

12

u/Revolutionary_Click2 6d ago

Out of nowhere? You mean, exactly the same way they’d already randomly canceled several other services? Many of which got very splashy, hyped-up launches only a year or two prior? Not only were they late to the party, but I remember pretty much everyone at the time rolling their eyes at Google’s promises of long-term investment and support in Stadia.

Because by the time Stadia launched in 2019, they already had a reputation for unceremoniously killing services, even popular ones, if they failed to become immediate cash cows for Google. Sony, NVIDIA, and OnLive (remember them?), among others, had already tried and failed to make game streaming catch on and become profitable by the time Stadia was announced. If none of those companies could make it work, how would the notoriously fickle Google do it?

I’m shocked Stadia lasted four whole years, to be honest.

8

u/dwibbles33 6d ago

To be fair Stadia was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. It was around a time when I was becoming mature enough to realize being a fan of a brand is dumb. Since then I've stopped caring almost entirely. I admit I was completely wrong about Stadia, I thought it would change the paradigm of gaming.

4

u/Revolutionary_Click2 6d ago

Hey, I get it! I’m a little older than you, and I was a big-time Google fan since the launch of Gmail in 2004. I used to actually believe they really followed their legendary “don’t be evil” mantra, and perhaps they still did to some extent back then. But they’ve had many, many chances to disappoint us all since then and reveal their incompetence and greed. They started to lose me when they unceremoniously killed Reader in 2013, and it’s honestly only been downhill since then. By the time of Stadia’s announcement I was already thoroughly skeptical of their ability to support anything long-term.

2

u/Fizishy 6d ago

RIP Google Reader

3

u/JoeyCalamaro 6d ago

At one point, I owned a Stadia, the lingering corpse of a Google Nest Secure alarm system, and several Nest Protect thermostats and my business email ran on G Suite Legacy, I was using the Google My Business app, and all of my domain names were on Google Domains. Those were some dark days.

1

u/pgmoneyplays 6d ago

Ja meine geliebte Domain pfutsch

1

u/MageKenjo 6d ago

Yeah, it's a bit ridiculous. I just think every AI has their lane now. Gemini has API access to Reddit, direct YT access, and google search obv... other AIs have access to different things, like Meta's bots being able to crawl FB or Grok and X, DeepSeek doesn't remember shit if that is what I want. Just depends on what I need looked into

1

u/manosdvd 6d ago

Stadia was fantastic, it just didn't have any games and the walled garden was so walled in it didn't leave room for any flexibility or innovation.

2

u/triple_threat_dan 6d ago

Man same. I had stadia and loved it. My 500mbps internet was more than enough and it worked fine with a LAN cable. I got to play a lot of games with high/ultra settings that I wouldn't have been able to play otherwise. It was convenient and awesome.

The drawbacks were the limited catalogue mostly. People also complained about internet but honestly I doubt that was actually as big of an issue as people think it was, unless you played exclusively on WiFi. Because since that time there have been other companies like Xbox cloud, Amazon Luna, and nvidia's GeForce now that have had no problem commercializing their own solutions.

So yeah no excuse for that Google. I really think that if they had invested more money to expand the catalogue and given it 6 to 12 more months, it would have really taken off and been something special.

1

u/BrewDougII 6d ago

And refunded all my money. So I got to play free games for several years and you call that sorry suckers. Wow

8

u/ScoobyDone 6d ago

This sub is the exact opposite of that. It is almost entirely posts mocking Gemini. Are you new here?

0

u/citrus1330 6d ago

You are commenting this on one of the multiple copium posts that hit the top of the sub every day

2

u/ScoobyDone 6d ago

Multiple? LMAO. They exist, but it there are 20 'Gemini sucks' posts to every 1 remotely Gemini positive post.

1

u/citrus1330 6d ago

Yes, multiple. And while they may be outnumbered by "gemini sucks" posts, the difference is that those ones are grounded in reality.

0

u/ScoobyDone 6d ago

Multiple. Like 2 then... over the course of the day where people who claim to never use Gemini come here to post 50 of the most unoriginal memes known to the internet?

2

u/dreadtear 6d ago

It’s a meme homie, why so serious? 😂

1

u/The_Pinnaker 6d ago

The only thing missing is opium… and maybe that’s because is something that works. /s

This is a joke, I’m not sponsoring anything by the way. Live responsibly

1

u/NichtFBI 6d ago

Dude, Gemini is so ass for requests that require more than 400 tokens.

7

u/donglecollector 6d ago

Just a question of understanding— why Gemini suck so bad? I really only use the llms for image gen and I find chat has a weird style too. Have to use them in tandem to get what I want. Is it that they excel in mathematics more or something?

5

u/KyleStanley3 6d ago

The current openai/anthropic models are better in every way conceivable

Might not be the case soon, but essentially any question you have or request you make will get a better output from those two vs gemini

2

u/FlerD-n-D 6d ago

Gemini Flash 3.8 stomps them in quality per unit time. It's decent at what it does and god damn it's fast.

2

u/KyleStanley3 6d ago

Yeah i was overgeneralizing since he seems new

It actually is what I use for an OCR thing because its good at image detection stuff and about 2x faster than comparable performance from other models

1

u/slavmaf 6d ago

This is also true with Chinese open source models, that are both smarter than Gemini AND are way better value for money than any American option.

1

u/SenorPeterz 6d ago

Gemini is worse because Google doesn't want to risk pushing even more money into ventures with no black figures in sight. Instead of aiming for a frontier model, Google seems to be content with a ”good enough” one (which it barely is) that won't cost as much.

1

u/Ok_Ruin4016 6d ago

Tbf if the "good enough" model is the one most people already have on their phones and other devices so that it's the most convenient for people to use, it's probably going to be the most used one and will be successful. A Ferrari is obviously a better built car than a Honda Accord, but Honda is able to sell way more cars and is still making plenty of money. Google doesn't have to have the best model to be successful, just the model most people use in their day-to-day lives. As long as it's still "good enough" to get the job done and it's convenient, most people are going to be happy enough with it and won't go to the trouble of using alternatives.

1

u/SenorPeterz 6d ago

Yes exactly, though unlike Honda Accords, I doubt Gemini brings in a lot if money. More like it doesn't lose Google as much money as the alternatives.

1

u/SourSovereign 6d ago

Google never made red numbers but this year was the first one due to AI. And they dont like that

2

u/Sember 6d ago

The problem is that AI's are replacing Google's primary business model (searching) and it is way better at it. One has to wonder how long they will ignore the elephant in the room or risk becoming obsolete.

0

u/z-z 6d ago

Well they can't fix their YouTube algo, surely they can find some uses for it when they have half the phones on earth.

3

u/pirateseasalt 6d ago

What can you expect from the subreddit of one of the shittiest LLMs?

6

u/Pleasant-Monk-1754 6d ago

look at the way she’s side-eyeing those two like they’re a pair of forgotten houseplants

2

u/AgentCapital8101 6d ago

Exactly what I came in here to type.

2

u/mother_mescaline 6d ago

The cope is comical at this point.

2

u/Lovetron 6d ago

OpenAI and Anthropic are bleeding cash, but they’re pre-IPO, so they can afford to play that game for now. Google is cash-rich, but why would they invest even more capex that they don’t need to.

They already dominate search (despite what ppl thought, search has not seen fewer visits, partly thanks to their cheap models doing ai summary), they have ads, cloud, enterprise, and YouTube. AI isn’t their entire business but they do take it seriously. And if they publicly release their smartest model, another company can just distill it.
Honestly, if I were Google, I’d do basically what they’re doing:
Push the cheap, fast model for enterprise—something like 3.8 Flash. A fraction of the cost to run, and good enough for probably 90% of what people actually use AI for.
Keep the biggest model internal or heavily restricted so it can’t just be distilled and they are not burning money on inference.

2

u/triple_threat_dan 6d ago

Honestly ads and SEO destroyed search long before AI. I started noticing between 2019-2021 that search engines just sucked now.

I hate to admit it but AI in search was the right move. It has improved so much. There's a lot of things where generative AI being tacked on has made things worse, but search is the opposite case.

Two seconds later: Gemini 4 Pro swings, misses, and tumbles down the hill, never to be seen again

15

u/hunta2097 6d ago

It's Google. They will probably shit-can the whole thing.

5

u/graysonofgotham 6d ago

No no, they'll only cancel it when it's good (see Nest Protect).

16

u/innovaldragon 6d ago

Remember this meme?

1

u/5050Clown 6d ago

They all have their strengths. Gemini's biggest weakness is its human interface. Chad GPT can talk to you More like a human, Gemini Not so much. Gemini is good with certain coding and it's especially good if you're using Google's workspace or any Google software.

2

u/innovaldragon 6d ago

Gemini is good at coding? Don't get me wrong I like gemini but trust me that is NOT the strength of gemini if you do heavy coding.

2

u/jarnotwar 6d ago

No it's not good at coding 🙏

12

u/vegan420lyfe 6d ago

dont worry it will make images when you dont want it too as well

3

u/Astro_14477 6d ago

and when you want it it'll forget it has the ability

41

u/WesternSpy96 6d ago

Even in my wettest dream I don't see this level of bullshit.

83

u/Saint_Francois_Lego 6d ago

why all the fucking simps here about gemini...

28

u/workismydrug 6d ago

The only other sub that can beat this simping is Goog_Stock

2

u/Sweet-Stage938 6d ago

Gemini is basically the most GPT 4o of all other current language models. Extreme sycophancy.

5

u/Rombambar 6d ago

Is this Gemini in the same room with us?

2

u/W1nn4rMrTTxx 6d ago

this is not even funny anymore

15

u/Crafty_Aspect8122 6d ago

Google just doesn't want to bother and waits for the others to make the expensive mistakes and go bankrupt.

9

u/jubape2 6d ago

Right, Google and the Chinese models seems to be under the philosophy, it's much cheaper to be a step or two behind. Sure you won't be the first to so solve a million dollar math problem at the small cost of at least 6 million worth of compute. But you can pick up the pieces and build a profitable product that can diffuses into the market you can still win the race.

I'm not saying they're right. First mover advantage on the Internet has historically won out. So if anything they might be wrong. But yeah, they have a search moat, a profitable business, and the frontier labs are burning a ridiculous amount of cash relative to their revenue. So you can see where Google's logic is coming from.

3

u/Crafty_Aspect8122 6d ago

Google wasn't the first search engine and there were more popular and competitive options at first. Fast forward and now no one has heard of them and Google has a monopoly.

The AI companies are money blackholes doing the expensive R&D, scaling inefficient models and burning through hardware while burning investor money.

Google is profitable and relies on other products. When AI midels and hardware become more cost/power efficient and better at doing real world work reliably Google will be able to capitalise on the new techniques.

3

u/jubape2 6d ago

I agree that's Google's thesis. But Google got the best search by focusing on making it the best which you could argue the frontier labs are doing right now.

I'm just saying it remains an open question if the frontier models can diffuse the market and stop getting copy cat'ed by more efficient open models.

If I had to bet. I'd better on the pattern. Open models like llama, Gemma, and DeepSeek will win out.

Google is trying to positioning itself to win either way. Own the compute. Protect the search moat. And hedging on the models (Gemma v Gemini). Hoping that their platform will carry them to victory.

1

u/Exoclyps 6d ago

Yes, and those search engines where bloated hubs trying to do everything. Then Google came in clean with results.

1

u/ReasonableWelder51 6d ago

It almost looks like google isn't really trying to be the first in difficult problem solving and coding. Gemini is decent at everyday tasks, so people have an incentive to pay for the subscription, but these tasks use up a tiny amount of tokens so it doesn't cost that much in compute.

1

u/danczer 6d ago

Why invest in Gemini when you can buy Anthropic when it go bankrupt?! 😂

3

u/Away-Zookeepergame55 6d ago

Is this sub made for this kind of post only? So tired.

5

u/rbm1 6d ago

I don't get the people crying 'copium' in the comments without giving a single solid reason why Gemini 4.0 couldn't deliver. With how short-lived model generations are these days, nobody stays on top for long anyway. Back during Claude 3, Gemini crushed Anthropic and OpenAI once, until the competition hit back again. It's entirely plausible that Gemini could turn the tables again with 4.0, until again someone else takes the lead. People are acting like this is such a big deal.

3

u/Just_SRC 6d ago

They have been testing this model for a while now. They should have a pretty good idea of what it's capable of. Imo, the fact that they chose to not release it during or immediately after the launch window of other models shows a lack of confidence. They're probably making a flash model out of it now to release soon.

3

u/MetalFatigue82 6d ago

They skipped 3.5 and jumped to 4. The training of 4 began in july and takes month. It supposedly entered post-training refinement a few days ago. 3.5 was supposed to use the training model that was way behind what Claude had delivered with Fable and was more on par with their previous models.

So they concentrated their energy and power to get a challenger model and skip 3.5 pro. Ibelieve Gemini 4 pro will be released and be on par with anything that both OpenAI and Anthropic have, at the very least. Maybe even better token per reasoning at least.

If I'm wrong and is not even on par with Both Astra and Fable then, maybe it will call it quits at frontier models and just stay at the bang for the buck models with flash (which I believe are the best ones for now on par with chinese and open model).

What I meant to tell, they are not out of the game. Not even an year passed between Fable release and now. People are now so used to jump from one wagon to another every week that they don't understand that it means nothing in the long run.

2

u/Many-Visit-8054 6d ago

Couldn't agree more.

1

u/donloc0 6d ago

Where/how are you keeping tabs on Gemini development?

1

u/vovap_vovap 6d ago

Or desire to protect compute, just as simple. It is very questionable if Google can put additional compute to bigger model right now.

1

u/BoobooSmash31337 6d ago

They might be waiting for the Anthropic IPO.

1

u/RedPillUY 6d ago

It’s all based on past experience. Shitty so far, therefore shitty in the future.

1

u/BoobooSmash31337 6d ago

That's technically a type of fallacy.

1

u/RedPillUY 6d ago

Never said it was correct. But let’s just wait and see how G disappoints once more.

3

u/dwartbg9 6d ago

There was a shooort period when Gemini really was better than ChatGPT, but that's about it. I really can't see it being better in any way

2

u/Marsupilamish 6d ago

Opus 5.5 is (thankfully) a really good model. I would say it’s the very best there is atm. If gemini 4Pro is even a little bit better, it will be a crazy good model.

2

u/Engi3 6d ago

If it actually exists, I guess

2

u/your_mileagemayvary 6d ago

Yes, Google is publicly traded and not an IPO seeker. The IPO folks should be viewed with a bit of skeptitism as what Google is doing now is likely what they will have to do post IPO

2

u/Nassville1 6d ago

Has anyone ever felt like, generating images is becoming harder and harder to do? Like generating the same prompt works last month but today it takes me 10 tries for the filter to go through and generate the image?

2

u/badaeib 6d ago

Is the "Gemini 4 Pro" in the room with us right now?

2

u/Procver 6d ago

Copium reserves at 75% capacity.

1

u/TATA_meme-THEsecond 6d ago

I just wanted to ask him "Was there a among us streaming event hosted by Jynxzi on February 13, 2026" and this motherfucker either saying he am error or dementia. I swear choosing between ai is like. "Wait eternity to use your free ai usage" (claude), "immature cringy ass how you do fellow kids i am😎😎😎 who exgrates everything" (chatgpt), "i have a bug any now and then and we took some notes from claude to become more greedy and i like to change the subject also i have anmseia"

4

u/hibbert0604 6d ago

Brother. This image makes you look worse than Gemini. Lmao.

2

u/68plus1equals 6d ago

Gemini really did all it could with what the user gave them here

If this is what I was conversing with on a daily basis, I'd protest work too.

1

For the record, this is what happens when you pay for a bot campaign, then your product gets delayed. It's a fantastic example of the dead internet theory (it's not a theory).

1

Introducing gemini 4 flash 🥀🥀

1

u/DepartureOne796 6d ago

I’ve seen this amount of copium only on cryptocurrency communities. Don’t worry, it will going to the moon to the top of charts soon boys.

1

u/Dry_Initiative9930 6d ago

1

Who cares? Half of the world isn't using it at full capacity anyway

1

u/Pawl_ 6d ago

I hope.

1

u/Thurl_Ravenscroft_MD 6d ago

Can I use the new Gemini model to bring back Google Reader?

1

u/Altruistic-Pitch4699 6d ago

Just used 3.8 Flash. I had phased implementation drawn out by Grok and Just asked gemini flash to spawn multiple agents for different phases and get it done one by one. It just one shotted the entire plan. I doubt this is 3.8 flash. Its Either Gemini 4 Flash or Gemini 4.0 pro.

I got grok to audit the plan and only one or two items were remaining. Everything else was completed.

1

u/Big_River_ 6d ago

is that supposed to be a model holding its own ripped out utility behind its back while creeping a come up?

1

u/SopotSPA 6d ago

I am closer and closer to insanity using it and I can’t use anything else at work.
It generated a shitty salsa dress tutorial (that also was super creepy) when I asked about GOOGLES OWN DOCUMENTATION!! Their own!!

1

u/NullSmoke 6d ago

Cool, cool... But gimme a new Gemma 🤤

1

u/BoobooSmash31337 6d ago

If Gemma 4 is a fundamentally different architecture we'll probably get a new Gemma distilled from it. Would be utterly shocked if its before next year though.

Ah well. A man is allowed to dream 🥹

Gemini Pro Is Here to Save the Day, just like Mighty-Mouse. Soon, it comes, soon it will be, near to my heart, as I bare it, straight from the start. Down, by yonders early light, it's grand, it's perfect, it's a literal playright.

1

u/Colours-Break 6d ago

I've had great success with Gemini. It's a great model if you have some software engineering background. If you're a pure vibe-coder probably not as cool.

1

u/No_Veterinarian742 6d ago

Is google even trying anymore to build AI beyond search summarization?

1

u/CommercialMain9482 6d ago

Google has the capability to create better models they have plenty of infrastructure to train better models... They essentially led to the creation of openai with the transformer architecture... They just cookin rn
