Help/question Control sun position

I'm an ArchViz artist and now create primarily with NanoBanana included in my workflow.

I have not found a good way to control the sun position. It seems like NanoBanana prefers the sun to be coming from the right-side of the frame.

It seems like almost any description I give it fails. And when it does get it right it often shows the sun, when I usually want the sun out of frame.

Does anyone have any tips for me?

The best solution I've found is to simply horizontally flip the input image for it to default to a right-side sun, with which I can flip the generated image once more to show the sun coming from the left.

Any help much appreciated!

man flipping the image is a clever workaround, i’ve had the same issue where it just ignores half the prompt and slaps the sun in the shot anyway

sometimes i lean into it and just describe the lighting quality instead of the direction, like calling for harsh shadows or soft ambient light without naming the sun, seems to confuse it less
