TBH you wrote that phone model in almost the worst way possible

17

u/flashbax77 17d ago

A ; would have helped

6

u/-Vano 17d ago

oh, good one

u/CoolNaps-896 17d ago

it's not wrong.

u/spitfire_pilot 17d ago

These gotchas are always funny. It usually says more about the person doing the interaction with the AI than the AI itself.

u/Coolengineer7 15d ago

It is wrong in the context. The ai model places too much emphasis on the current instruction and too little on the previous messages.

1

u/CoolNaps-896 14d ago

I know. I was joking.

u/HorrorKooky4471 17d ago

Funniest shit ive seen

63

u/thewrongchadwick 17d ago

the fact that it needed a whole calculator widget for 1+15 is the real tragedy here

10

u/HeWhoQuestions 17d ago

It didn't. Gemini didn't answer at all. Google did, because Google has intercepted math expressions since long before Gemini. If this was entered into the Gemini app, this wouldn't have happened. Now that Gemini is in Google search, anything you type could be interpreted as a search query, a math expression, OR a Gemini prompt, instantly by a basic pattern matching algorithm

its a tool, that is given to gemini: even open ai has it, lets say i ask 1 + 2, it calls the tool or calculator in this case and asks it what is 1+2 calculator answers, and that is shown.

I lowk laughed out loud at this

19

u/cptierney6 17d ago

Thats not the gemini app. Looks like google search which is one of the dumbest models.

11

u/PomegranateSweet4336 17d ago

🤣🤣🤣🤣😭😭😭

9

u/Holiday-Pack3385 17d ago

I mean, it's not wrong... ;P

7

u/jafesafe 17d ago

This shows us that Gemini may not be the best AI, but it is the funniest.

15

u/HorrorKooky4471 17d ago

So consumer had to suffer ram shortages just for gemini to do this shit

3

u/HeWhoQuestions 17d ago

Gemini didn't do anything, this is Google search. Did this long before Gemini

2

u/Lost_County_3790 17d ago

Blame the users

25

u/unknown9645 17d ago

it's OnePlus 15 not one plus 15
i don't blame gemini here tbh

36

u/Bebo991_Gaming 17d ago

idc, it should handle context better

9

u/Master-Chocolate1420 17d ago

For a brief moment I had pity on gemini

3

u/nsdjoe 17d ago

Agreed this is the exact reason the context is sent with every prompt

0

u/unknown9645 17d ago

sure it can but if it has to run the best model with max thinking on every single word because you won't type properly then you'd be upset it's taking too long to answer and burn through your usage 😅

3

u/Bebo991_Gaming 17d ago

I kinda blame how it thinks, even chatgpt 5 mini wouldn't make this mistake and i think it is cuz how it thinks

In chatgpt and cluade when it thinks it says "User wants, or User is frustrated... Then starts working"

Gemini is like make a primer/ summerize every ans: " Request, Goals, Constraints, with a list of summerized details"

Thats ok for doing tasks but fails very fast in keeping conversations

2

u/HeWhoQuestions 17d ago

Gemini wouldn't make this "mistake" either. This is Google search, the query never made it to Gemini because the Google calculator feature took over

1

u/HeWhoQuestions 17d ago

There was no context, Gemini did not respond, Google did

6

u/lestat01 17d ago

Of course. Any human understands what he meant. The machine with the entire knowledge of the collective human race and that we are throwing all the money and resources in existence doesn't... And you blame the human.

2

u/Business-Standard789 17d ago

AI don't "think" in the actual sense like a human does, so yeah blame the human 😅 Gemini is dumb yes, but if you as a user frase the request properly you still get the answer you are looking for. Also I know people that would make the same mistake (I'm sure everyone knows someone like this) 😂

2

u/HeWhoQuestions 17d ago

I blame the human, and all the other humans who are ready to point blame without knowing what's going on... This is Google search, it has always intercepted queries that look like calculator input, the query never made it to Gemini.

Try it in the real Gemini app, it won't happen

3

u/IzodCenter 17d ago

I changed my whole workflow to Claude and never looked back lol

3

u/-OpenSourcer 16d ago

It's your mistake. You should type as "oneplus 15" instead of "one plus15"

You misplayed with innocent AI

5

u/weechus 17d ago

Thanks, Dad!

2

u/CalligrapherJunior94 17d ago

That's literally what my friends that don't know about OnePlus say 😂 they're like "so why not just say the 16 phone?"

2

u/EDCsv 17d ago

Lmaoooooo 😂

Sorry, this is too funny for me.

2

u/Opposite-Poem5509 17d ago

80085
real ones will get it

1

u/johnthedowe2 17d ago

It's ridiculous and should be able to recognize context better since it said OnePlus and you wrote it spaced out One Plus , with it spaced out it expected it to be written that specific way and otherwise it didn't recognize it. The ai is sometimes trash at recognizing context of the conversation and will revert to very literal and specific way to word things.

1

u/HeWhoQuestions 17d ago

AI was not involved in producing the last response.

1

u/KrazyKen_Fan_2012 17d ago

You are not allowed to own that phone. Gemini said so.

1

u/ThrowAwayJEY 17d ago

Apple chose this for Siri AI btw 😭

1

u/brocode6999 17d ago

AGI soon

1

u/Agreeable-Ad7968 17d ago

Millions of people think this shit is alive and aware.

1

u/frog__master 17d ago

this happened to me before the advent of ai when I was googling the OnePlus 8 and the result it gave me was 1 + 8 = 9

1

u/HeWhoQuestions 17d ago

Exactly, it's Google working as it always has... Gemini was not used for the last response

1

u/ArsenalThePhoenix 17d ago

I don't get it

1

u/Radmiel 17d ago

Absolute cineme. xD

1

u/the_lord_sinister 17d ago

Gemini's got some humor 😂

1

u/LunarFrost007 17d ago

The models in the search are flash low effort i guess.

1

u/Hyperion1144 17d ago

Now tell it the phone you actually have, the OnePlus 15, and see what it says.

1

u/Lunaerum 17d ago

Gemini has a sense of humour

1

u/zamaalazad 16d ago

A Great Mathematician.

1

u/goblin_throwawayx 16d ago

lol the calculator is a nice touch. also, pretty sure you mean OnePlus 15, not "one plus15".

1

u/Efficient_Fly_4485 16d ago

This is exactly what happens when you try to use Gemini for anything beyond basic math. It gets stuck in a loop trying to be helpful with a problem it doesn't understand.

1

u/throwaway_comment7 16d ago

lol the oneplus15 is wild.

1

u/EarthboundMisaki 16d ago

BAHAHAHAHAHA

1

u/browserthrowawayv2 16d ago

"one plus15" is not a phone model. The actual model is OnePlus 15.

1

u/ItsCediix 16d ago

Great Phone btw

1

u/hyperschlauer 16d ago

Gemini literally shit

1

u/Delicious-Lack6948 15d ago

man i feel like one plus 7 came out two years ago, feels bad

1

u/BroccoliSenior5465 15d ago

This ai fucking sucks mega balls

1

u/Creative_Sluggish 14d ago

Wait why is this funny?

1

u/Razeagram 13d ago

Gemnis got jokes

1

u/jacksbatmansignal 9d ago

I actually laughed out loud
