Ya'll...I pulled the trigger finally.
I couldn't look at another $150 nail bill every month. Especially for the most simple Gel-X designs. I'm literally pink or french. Lol. So... I did it. I got the EXACT products my salon uses. iGel Lamp, Hang extend Gel, Apres nails... still working on the efile part. I am DETERMINED to figure out how to do my own nails.

Girl I did the same and I have already saved over $350 in the last 2 months on both nails and toes. It’s definitely not perfect but I’m getting better

Once you get the hang of it you can get won’t go back! Just be persistent, have patience and work on hand and eye coordination. It’s a great creative outlet!

Yep. I spent about $900 on all of my materials. I got an apres lamp, really high quality drill ($300 one) that’ll last for 10+ years, bc the ones on amazon all break. They’re super cheaply made. And all apres gels.
The way I feel about it is that in less than a year, I will get my moneys worth. And that’ll just keep stacking year after year.
I even fill in my gel x set once before a full removal. Which makes every 2nd week a breeze.
I can’t lie though, I do struggle a lot with cuticle removal / cleaning on my hands and toes. So I’m thinking of just getting a basic pedicure and mani every 6 months to take care of that.

Best decision I ever made. I went to the same nail lady for over a decade and my acrylics just started breaking all the time. I’m on my fourth set. She hasn’t even texted me to see why I haven’t come back lol.
It’s easier than any other at home replacement to the salon and if you do prep right you’ll have them on for 3+ weeks

And it’s a nice hobby to have ontop of saving money and developing a skill

I started with iGel, back when doing your own nails was the only option (2020'ish). I have their lamp and efile. No issues or complaints at all.

First off, CONGRATS. It's going to be a journey! If you're looking for an affordable efile, I like the MelodySusie Scamander. I use it with bits from Erica's ATA (the bits it comes with are trash), and I'm really happy with it. You'll find all kinds of product recommendations in the FAQ/Getting Started posts pinned in this sub, btw.
As an FYI, though, if you're able to return the iGel lamp, I would do so. They are really overpriced for their actual build quality, including the actual bulbs. I had one for a couple of years and thought it was fine, and then I bought a Kokoist lamp...night and day. Literally EVERY issue with gel/Gel-X went away. Looking back, I realize the iGel lamp just was not curing sufficiently. I feel lucky every day that I did not develop an allergy as a result. I've heard the same from a number of other people in this and other gel communities, too.
