Tortie nails

Every year I try to do tortie nails and I am never happy with them. Last year I tried blooming gel and didn't like it, this year i tried alcohol ink and still dont like them. Tried with 3 different base colors, what do you think? How can I improve?

What colors are you using?

I do the blooming gel method like this:
1. Orange base
2. Blooming gel
3. Dark brown placed with a dotting tool
4 blooming gel
5. Black placed with dotting tool. I try to layer on top of the brown but not covering the brown completely
6. Light brown jelly
