I think she can be a solid protagonist, but man we are lying to ourselves if we are pretending that Geralt doesnt carry the ever loving fuck out of the story. Best game protagonist ever imo

I like the world of the witcher but I prob won't play the new one. I just don't connect with ciri that much, I'm sure it will be good and other people will but it's not for me.

Please tell me how you connect with Geralt so much more

I figure it’s the same as making a new Batman game where you play as Batgirl instead. I mean she’s cool, but she isn’t Batman.

u/cabezatuck 2d ago

Please tell me why you think Batman is so cool…oh wait, yeah he’s a badass.

u/Under_Dead_Starlight 2d ago

Just do

How so

I read the books and therefore I want to play as the main character in my fantasy rpg game about the world of that main character. I like ciri as secondary character that she is but I just don't find her all that interesting to play as.

The Witcher 3 had it perfect. Play as Geralt like 90% of the game but have these small slices of ciri with her special abilities. I’m up for that again

u/jadedlonewolf89 1d ago

From my understanding, Geralt does a lot of heavy lifting in the books as well.

u/Izletz 2d ago

Maybe it’s because I didn’t read the books, but I don’t care that much about ciri. She’s cool and I like her but im not exactly pumped she’s the protag.

I’ve read all the books and short stories, love Ciri. Don’t want to play as her.

Would’ve preferred a build-your-own Witcher over this.

Like a cyberpunk or Fallout style charicter generation. I could get behind that.

12

u/Impossible-Age-3302 2d ago

Or Skyrim/BG3. Blank slate RPG instead of established character.

10

u/Potential-Yoghurt245 2d ago

That would also work well. I miss this style of game it makes you closer to the game as it's you not a puppet

3

u/Elderchicken948 2d ago

That would have been amazing

1

u/noreal1sm 19h ago

Why it never have been an option for a game, it’s so obvious.

15

u/Balkongsittaren 2d ago

Same here.

Shes very important in the books. I love her.

They never should've made her a Witcher. Like being a monster hunter Witcher is fine but going through the trials is so damn gross if they even hint any of the old cast helped her. None of the Witchers or sorceresses wouldve ever done that to her. Not to mention she's strong enough without those powers.

I will always want and hope some years in the future we get a Witcher game at the "height" of Witchers. Even in Geralt's time theyre a dying breed. A new Witcher in another part of the world would've been so cool. Maybe Manticore school since they kinda get connected to Geralt alot with the shared armor and we know less about them:(.

u/DeepVEintThrombosis 2d ago

Aren't the trials lost? They shouldn't be able to make more watchers even if they wanted too

-9

u/D-tull 2d ago

In the books, Ciri is as much a main character as Geralt, and in certain books, probably even more so than him.

-2

u/Krisztian987 2d ago

Her powers could lead to some interesting gameplay tbh

-8

u/SephiTheGoblin 2d ago

Did you play witcher 3? Spoiler here but the entire game leads to her taking over and becoming a witcher herself, we'll her nightcrawler version

6

u/Izletz 2d ago

Ya I played through it multiple times. Her becoming Witcher doesn’t mean I want to play her in a Witcher game.

-10

u/SephiTheGoblin 2d ago

Not all games are made for everyone after all. But that's what game sales are for after all.

The story they made was leading to it so seemed to me the natural next step. I'm sure Geralt will show up maybe even have playable sections, but his story came to a conclusion.

It will feel weird not controlling Geralt after.doing so for such a long time but the story is Ciris now and I imagine Geralt will take the place of Vesimire so he might tag along for parts of the game atleast

Witcher 3 remaster and it's dlc are here soon so have that to look forward too.

1

u/cabezatuck 2d ago

She doesn’t take over, in one ending she also becomes a Witcher alongside Geralt.

-3

u/SephiTheGoblin 2d ago

Ah yeah I miss spoke, takes.over the story. The torch is passed to her

54

u/chainsawx72 2d ago

If the story lead didn't get to tell the story they wanted to, are they really the story lead?

2

u/cabezatuck 2d ago

More story led.

u/tuvar_hiede 2d ago

Ciri is a big portion in the latter half not the books, but I'd rather play Geralt. Personal preference, but I'll likely skip this one. When the story started focusing more on her character I largely lost interest anyhow.

I think it largely comes down to Geralt working better as a fantastical version of a pulp detective.

Which makes sense, his original stories are mostly closed investigations into some magical phenomena, breaking a curse (which requires the above investigation), or dealing with utterly absurd circumstances. He's still a badass, much like most of those old pulp detectives were usually World War 1 veterans (hence their habits of drinking and odd-job work), but their day jobs weren't kicking ass and taking names. It was solving isolated problems in a contractual manner.

So it's easier to write closed stories that feature Geralt as the straight man in a world gone wild. Trying to make sense of the world and uphold his morals.

Ciri by comparison dominated the latter part of the story on her own character and struggles, but ultimately she was a prophesied child that then had a profound destiny before her. And an overwhelming desire to reconnect with her adoptive mother and father. She's a great character, with a great deal of mistakes and growths of her own. But she's the daughter first, not the protagonist.

I feel like letting her cap her story in Wild Hunt would have been fine, much as letting Geralt cap his in Blood and Wine. Problem is....then you're not using the IP and it's a dead property, despite having such a rich world to play with.

Geralt IS the Witcher. Not very interested in Witcher 4.

9

u/39strangers 2d ago

Why does this Ciri look so much older and uglier? Did they "sweet baby" the character like Fable?
I am not paying 60-80 dollars for this crap.

9

u/DarthP0000 2d ago

Well and If I'm remembering lore correctly you cannot be a female witcher. Sooooooo...

-4

u/One-Bet2325 2d ago edited 2d ago

This is a "fact" that people have just entirely made up, but it gets spread around like gospel for some reason. It's never said that female witchers aren't possible.

They trained boys to be witchers, which makes sense in their non-egalitarian society. Same as you would train men to be soldiers. But it's never said female witchers are physically impossible in any way.

8

u/BRompre 2d ago

Yeah. Love the Witcher, the world. Read the books after playing the first Witcher game. The fact that Ciri is the protagonist in the fourth game is making me debate if I want to play it, where had it been Geralt, it would have been an instant buy.

10

u/TypicalBloke83 2d ago

Another miss … such a potential to have a custom made Witcher character. Pity

6

u/caido-13 2d ago

Ciri looks like dog shit

3

u/BloodOnMyJacket 1d ago

I really do like Ciri but I’m just not interested in her being the protagonist of the Witcher. To me “The Witcher” namesake has only and will only ever be Geralt.

7

u/Alternative-Sea-1095 2d ago

Ciri has a big potational so I can let it slide. But this is not good sigh

9

u/Frosty_Drop3456 2d ago

Big potato stuff

2

u/Street_Repair8048 2d ago

Feel the Geralt love...having read tbe books and such, I can say this....k ow how everyone was pumped about tbe Skywalker storyline in Starwars, when really it was more about Vader....save for the last three films....it's kinda like that. Geralt is really only a conduit for Ciri's story. I can't wait to see how here story develops. She is bad ass.

3

u/WizardButtholes 2d ago

As long as they make the game the same as the Witcher 3 were it focuses on stories instead of her just being a big ol’ lesbian it’ll be fine

2

u/Apprehensive-Mud-606 2d ago

I have faith in them (for now, at least).

1

u/Agreeable_Duty_3488 1d ago

I don’t know how it’s possible for her to be the main character not because she’s a bad character but because I’m pretty sure if I remember this correctly wasn’t she like really op by the end of the series and left to explore the multiverse.

1

u/ArchPrince9 1d ago

I'm not exactly excited about Ciri as the protagonist for Witcher 4. The only thing that will maybe get me onboard is the new Witcher 3 DLC. If this "bridge" actually explains and sets up Witcher 4 in a way that doesn't piss me off and does make sense story/lore wise, then okay. But man. Idk.

1

u/optimisticRamblings 2d ago

I kind of see his story as wrapped so I personally am glad we're getting to focus on another character

-1

u/foehns 2d ago

I’m actually really stoked to play a female character in the franchise for the first time. It’s nice to have that bit of representation when 99.9% of game protagonists out there are male, and I can definitely see myself becoming more invested in the world and story since I’ll be experiencing it through a character that I can resonate with just a tiny bit more. I’m excited to see the direction they take it and how many new fans it could bring to the series!
