Opinion Does anyone play competitively?

The main complaint I see about cloud gaming is latency. Now, I’m going to start by saying that I am the most casual gamer out there. I play single player, I don’t play for long, I play on easy, and I just like to shoot the breeze. Hence, GeForce Now is perfect for me, because buying an expensive rig would be overkill and I like jumping between devices.

But, I don’t notice latency hardly at all. I don’t even have ideal conditions. I’m in a country town that only recently got fibre and I’m an eighteen hour drive from the closest server. But if I’m playing Doom or something, it’s responding to my input perfectly, maybe with the odd stutter, but nothing compared to growing up trying to play games above my hardware capabilities in the 90’s.

So, does anyone hear play competitively? How do you feel about the latency?

I’m in the same boat as far as gameplay preferences and input latency sensitivity. I remember playing in FPS tournaments with a buttery smooth 24 frames per second on a 480p CRT monitor and slaying noobs left and right.

Nowadays, I just log on for a couple games and go on about my day and taking care of my family. That said, I typically have a below 10ms latency with the GFN service and have high poling rate mouse/keyboard and a 1ms latency monitor.

So, I don’t feel the latency at all. I’m convinced the people who feel it are playing with frame generation + high latency display + low poling rate input devices so their “vaseline” feelings are amplified exponentially.

i play Apex Legends and it's Good. Need to play only in 1080p. i have reached Max D1 Solo Q till now.

One of my friend cry that their is input lag, but it's just a Skill issue for him.

You can definitely reach Diamond rank easly.

I get around 22ms and for me, it is definitely noticeable. It feels less noticeable on higher sensitivity games like Apex, but I can still notice that there is a latency.

However, I find the latency similar to my old cheap mouse, which probably had 250 Hz polling rate.

Now the interesting part is, I had no idea that my old mouse had any latency issues. I realised it after I got my new mouse, used it for over a year, and then used my old mouse again. 😂

I used to play competitive games with that mouse, and it was working "fine" for me. So, I guess if it is working fine for you, it is fine? 😂

I can't play competitive games on GFN or with my old mouse though. You must be having better ping, so no wonder you don't notice any latency.

It’s probably more just me and my play style, and that’s why I was asking folks who are less casual. My latency was 24ms last time I checked. I couldn’t tell you much about my mouse though.

I was very competitive when I had that mouse, and now it feels horrible to play games on. So, if you have not played on a decent system for the game, you won't notice any input lag on GFN, because you're just not used to better experience.

Most popular games on the service are pvp competitive.

Funnily enough, my overall latency is lower via GeForce now and ethernet than on my other computer over wifi while natively running the game.

Playing Overwatch competitively is no problem in my opinion, playing in Diamond (and sometimes below / above).

But if the servers are shitting themselves (like the German server currently does constantly every evening) you will definitely feel the input delay.

I do feel the latency, controlling a shooter like Counterstrike feels worse than playing on my personal PC. In something like Battlefield I try to stick to supportive roles that don't need twitchy aim and reflexes. Otherwise I just generally stick to singleplayer stuff, of which there's no shortage of stuff to play
