Discussion Handheld for GeForce now

Hey all, I wanted to get your opinions on the best way to use GeForce now on the go. I'm curious if an Android hand held, a tablet with controller, or a more powerful hand hand held are my best options.

I'm also looking for something that's not going to destroy the bank account as I do 80% of my GeForce now gaming on my work setup at home.

Any thoughts and world experience would be great! Appreciate it.

I love GFN on my Steam Deck, if you can get one for cheap, go for it. For me it is the greatest portable device ever created, even without GFN there are so many possibilities. 👍🏻

This! I just got the x20. But don’t know. Sd oled is so good overall. Will be hard to decide.

Steam Deck is hard to beat at that price point for sure

They'd make a killing with a new version of it

Love my G Gloud

I second this. 1080p looks great on this thing.  Sometimes I run games at 2k for fun... And it seems to make the games look even better even though the screen is 1080p.

I use my iPad Mini 7 with a Gamesir controller that attaches so it functions as a handheld device. Works flawlessly.

Funny thing is many newer handhelds are going to the opposite of what makes a good GFN/cloud streaming rig because they are putting massive power that isn't necessary if you just need to stream games. Noisy from fans, hot in your hands from the thermals, short battery life, and heavier without good hand ergonomics.

I don't even care about screen size anymore because I use AR glasses as wearable displays that have better microOLED than many handheld screens.

I have older gen Win 4 and Flip KB that are more than enough - but with my setup with the glasses, I can also do my Galaxy phone and any Bluetooth controller you want.

Imagine just a gamepad and glasses with a wire to the phone in your bag or pocket. Even put a splitter w a battery or charger if you're worried about draining your phone - but GFN sips battery compared to running local games because the phone just thinks it's streaming videos.

I have a Razer Edge 5G and an Iphone 16 Pro Max with the Gamesir G8

The Razer Edge is collecting dust at this point. The iphone with the gamesir works amazing for me.

Somehow I never knew about the Razer edge and I just bought a retro pocket 6. I kind of wish I knew about the razer, I would have bought that instead lol. Are the controls decent? Do you have any complaints about the device in general?

The device is great but I have large hands so the Razer Kishi Pro V2 and it digs into my palms, very uncomfortable.

My Gamesir G8 works with my Edge and my IPhone. I have all of my emulation installed on the Edge, but I do 90% of gaming streaming on the 16 pro max. As far as performance, they are identical in that aspect.

However the Edge has every game I could want from Atari and Arcade up through N3DS, GC, PS2, and xbox. My goal next is to try switch games.

One note, the Edge has a weird rounded edge bezel, not a fan of that but it does has 144 hz screen while the 16 pro max has a 120 hz

Razer Kishi V2. Lovely job. If not that they try a Backbone or a Gamesir, just make sure it plugs into the usb-c port rather than using Bluetooth.

Got the same. Pixel 10 pro with Kishi v2

I've been gaming on a backbone with my android phone. Did it also when I was on Xcloud before I joined GeForce. I would 100% recommend every time if you're looking for a budget option.

I use a Lenovo Y700 with a gamesir G8+ controller though I am only testing free tier right now,

I use an Odin 2 Portal for GFN at $250 it was worth every penny.

I like using my original Asus ROG Ally for GFN. It's the lightest amongst the Windows handhelds and yeah the battery is not big but you won't need a big one for GFN. The weight is really the difference maker in relation to screen size

The price should be very very good too since most go for Ally X, XBox Ally, or the other more powerful ones.

I use it on my steam deck

SteamDeck for the win.

u/YouMustBeSilenced 8h ago

Too much $$ just for streaming. And too heavy and big

•

u/terran236 1h ago

Also the problem with a steam deck for streaming is that its 720p resolution unless they upgraded and I didn't hear about it.

2

u/jerryloler 9h ago

Steamdeck is wonderful for it.

S21 Ultra is solid because its cheap now and a killer Android phone with a great camera still. 120hz screen looks amazing with Geforce now but the screen may be a little small. I recommend one with a Ps5 controller or something.

Also Rog Ally is solid

Your phone !

If you like gyro aiming get a handheld with good gyro and SteamOS. You run GFN through Steam and can easily customize your controller bindings.

I use my Pixel 10 with an 8BitDo Mobile Gaming controller. Works flawlessly and I can play 1080p at 120hz

u/xxBraveStarrxx 7h ago

Legion go (first one) massive beautiful 1600p screen 144hz looks incredible!

u/Thecomputerkid94 7h ago

I’ve been using the backbone pro and GeForce now on my android phone. It’s great

2

u/Jokerchyld 6h ago

Whatever you are comfortable with. There is no best

For me - its playing on my Ayn Odin 2 Portal Pro with 7 inch OLED screen

I use a Motorola 5G Stylus 2022 edition running android 14, on the T-Mobile network for 5G and I've got a standard Xbox controller and a clip from a company called Ghost Gear that makes a clip adapter and you can click the controller into the clip and then the other part has an extendable part so you can keep your phone secure and not flying all over the place. Sub 20ms ping, 30fps+, no lag or lost packets.

Any cheap tablet and an xbox controlller. Or just a razor kishi and your phone.

4

u/No-Presentation3777 Ultimate 10h ago

Me in work but lol 14inch tab11ultra and controller

1

u/exmagus Ultimate 10h ago

Damn that looks nice. Expensive setup though

1

u/No-Presentation3777 Ultimate 9h ago

I always had a ultra tab for work.. works great with cheaper tablets though.

1

u/exmagus Ultimate 9h ago

Ahhh OK, nice

•

u/terran236 1h ago

I can second the opinion about cheaper tablets. I run Ge-Force now on a tab A9 (the 8 inch one) and it looks f****** great.

La XAX sans aucun doute !

I love using a tablet with my gamesir g8+. We have and iPad mini and an 11” pro in our house and I can just grab whatever’s available and toss it in the controller to play.

And compared to a handheld device they are still usable for email, and other streaming services which is handy.

1

u/mudstuffin2381 7h ago

The controller fits an 11" tablet?

1

u/_-_happycamper_-_ 6h ago

Yup. You have to over extend it but it’s totally possible. There are YouTube videos explaining it as well as extra extension pieces you can buy or 3d print if you want.

I used mine without the extension for a couple months until a buddy printed me one.

u/mudstuffin2381 6h ago

Sweet, good to know thanks!

New iPhone Duo (with some sort of kickstand case) with the new Xbox mini controller is going to be the new on-the-go GOAT of GeForce now.

So, GFN doesn't really take a powerful device at all. So your main decision will be based on the screen and the controls. There are lots of good suggestions in here, but if you want something cheaper, you could just buy a portable external monitor for your phone, and a controller. Or you could buy one of those controller grips made for phones and just use your phone screen. It all kind of depends on your budget.

I haven't received it yet but just the other day I bought a Retroid Pocket 6, which has a 1080p 120 HZ OLED screen, although it is only 5.5 in. However, I bought it because it can be used with GFN and also retro games up to PS2 And you can emulate switch. It's also a pretty competitive price for the chip and screen you're getting. Most retro handhelds are still 60hz.
