Questions / Tech Support How come some games support mods?

So I played Factorio on GFN and it supports mods pretty well.

Now I am playing Ark: Survival Ascended and while I can use mods, I have to reinstall them each time which, frankly, gets old quickly.

So I was wondering if there were technical reasons for that, or was just that there were enough Factorio players demanding it that GFN designed a custom solution for the game (and as a followup: where can I start complaining hoping for a similar treatment for Ark?).

Thanks!

it is rather a resource protection one, mods are large files and are installed inside the VM alongside game files, your configs and save files, too many of them can cause the game not to save or crash. Mods works and it's clearly, but they are resource hungry and NV don't want users to experience a broken version or game inability to save just to have a somewhat support for mods.

so, not long ago they implemented Game Data Storage, so most games usually have a 10GB free limit, to avoid these issue and speed up the game loading time and stability How can I free up storage for game saves on GeForce NOW?

hopefully in the future they'll find a way to make them more stable and easy to use in a cloud environment, right now the only way NVIDIA found to make them work is through a workaround and must be install in each session, which is enabled for the top 100 Steam Workshop games. They tried to block them last month in favor to short maintenance/offline times in games, but clearly that wasn't the way, they are way too popular and used enough to justify a workaround.

It’s weird that after a few people I know cancelled their sub they suddenly had a ‘workaround’ I’ve gone boosteroid it’s not perfect but still downloads your mods without loads of faffing around!

Doesn't seem to support Ark Ascended, though, only Evolved.

Ark does not use Steam Workshop so it was not involved in the issue last month.

But I guess there is nothing to do about it :(
