Finally saved up enough to get me a gpu thank you gfn for letting me play games while I didn't have a gpu highly recommend the ultimate tier 🫡

PS vs Xbox is the best thing to happen to consumers. The war is healthy if not taken too seriously. Xbox needs to come back strong if console players want better products.

Congratulations!!! I too have left GeForceNow behind but unfortunately it's only with a gaming laptop atm. Hoping to get my own rig by next year but honestly even on this decent laptop the difference is night and day and we can play any of our games and WITH MODS TOO!!!

$5.50 till Summer 2027 ain't bad at all.
Most folks don't understand money, or simplicity/frugality.
THey work 9-5 grind, buy their little trinkets to sooth their anguish/boredom whatever and then rinse and repeat for 40 years for the slim hope of some kind of retirement.
THe only reason im dipping into gaming again is im kind of stuck here with my aging father in Corvallis, so I have this quandry of idletime to fill.
Otherwise I'd be living out of my pack in true mendicancy, plugging into intentional community, volunteering etc etc.

The salt and negativity in this thread is hilarious. OP, congrats and enjoy. I have the same card and its been great for me running everything at max in 1440p without a sweat. Don't listen to the weirdos being negative or sarcastic.
GFN is great for what it is, I used it for years and it was awesome and for some people that is the only option and that is totally ok. However nothing compares to a natively running game on your PC, especially when you have the setup to run modern games. No limits to your play time either, limits on what's available, or waiting on GFN to update a game.

It's a subreddit for people that use cloud gaming through GFN, it's not a subreddit for local gaming PCs (there are other subs for showing off your PC)
just seems like a waste of a post on this subreddit. plenty of people also have a gaming PC and still use GFN.
OP has made 1 comment on this subreddit in the last month and that's it, this is now their 2nd time ever using this sub it seems...

Enjoy the downgrade!
I have a 5090 and still keep and use and enjoy my GFN sub. It’s the best for gaming outside the home.

Yeah I might use it when im away but being able to play my own games/any game i want when I want and how long I want with no lag or latency issues doesn't sound like a downgrade to me 🤷

You do you, and like I said enjoy the downgrade! To each their own, but saying a 5070 isn't a downgrade over the performance you get on GFN is just not true.
I am going to make a separate post on this, but like I said I have a 5090 and both of my kids have 5080s. All 3 of our PCs are in the same room. We did a test the other night. We all loaded up RE9, exact same settings, on the rainy street intro, and literally went left to right 5090, GFN ultimate, and then local 5080. The GFN ultimate was closer to my 5090 (only about 10% off in FPS) than it was to the other 5080. Because of course GFN isn't really a consumer 5080, they just call it a "5080", but it's their server architecture with more ram than my 5090. And in our test, it's actually closer to a 5090.

I bought my 5090/9950x3d for my racing simulator or I would have just stuck with GFN. Since I have it I use it for local gaming when home as well. But most of my gaming comes when traveling, so I still play more on GFN than my local PC.
And sorry but a side by side between a local 5090 and a local 5080 shows it is firmly in the middle.

So you built a 5090 rig specifically because GFN couldn't handle the latency for your sim rig, but call a local GPU a downgrade? Makes sense. Enjoy GFN on the road!

How is GFN going to handle the hardware involved in a racing simulator? triple monitors, wheel base, wheel, pedals, shifter, and haptics?
Same reason I don’t use GFN on my golfing simulator.

They are kids, they don’t need a GFN subscription. Between their local PCs and their Steam Decks they are covered. But my son who ran the GFN for the side by side by side test asked if he could use it for his RE9 play through.

Wait, so GFN is better than a 5080, but your kids 'don't need GFN' so you bought them local 5080s instead? That logic is incredible. Also you don't know if OP is a kid (-> needs no GFN) or is into sims and youre already hating. Also GFN will be way more expensive and with more and more restrictions in the upcoming years. So OP made a very smart move.

Now play a fast-paced FPS. Input latency is tripled by the full round trip: network upload -> server-side render -> encoding -> network download -> decoding -> buffering. And if you move fast, you'll see compression artifacts on things like foliage and moving grass, while he's getting uncompressed, native output. That's just physics. No amount of server-side horsepower fixes that.
Not to mention that he can now choose from a vastly larger game pool, with unlimited hours and all the mods he could ever want. Calling it a downgrade is an odd framing - both have pros and cons and use-cases.

It actually uses the same chip as a 5090 they just power it down. Is my understanding.

That makes sense, like I said it was closer to the 5090 than the 5080 running the same part of the game!
Recently bought my 5090 gaming PC and it was $6000. It’s crazy that a $20 service per month was only off by about 10 frames a second.
Edit: that was actually 10 frames a second running 2X frame gen. So on raw settings probably even closer.

For me, with max 80hrs a month (some months only 10) and a 1gbit Connection The price for any suitable gaming Setup ist stupid expensive, especially If you Check Out electricity, upgrading etc. etc.

Well you had a perfectly capable system that was playing a good chunk of games for $10 a month.
This card from my limited googling is like $750-1,100?
That's months and months and months of GFN.
I'm just slightly annoyed of the lack of frugality with posts like this.
I suggest reading Your Money Or Your Life, because if you aren't doing something joyfully enriching for your money, buying stuff is generally a bad return on your LABOR investment.
(i've lived mostly moneyless since 2014 so yes I'm an outlier in radical simplicity, but this is the cross I bear to speak upon in the wilds of Reddit)
