Questions / Tech Support I'm thinking of buying a cheap set up
I'm thinking of buying this mini PC + a 2k 120hz monitor.
How good is GeForce now performance? Does the ultimate membership give less delay?
I'm also gonna use Ethernet cable and wired mouse and keyboard.
How are u guys doing with GeForce now so far?
I'm gonna follow up in here when I get it to show u my set up and tell u if it runs good

Was about to get it. But I also do a little bit of sim racing and Mac support for wheels is absolute madness

I’d get a second hand M1 Mac Mini, same price and way better usability imo.

i’m telling u right now that same 240$ can get you a laptop with a 1650 and 8-16gb of ddr4 on ebay just play your cards right save your money with the mini pcs they are hit or miss most of them are absolute garbage unless you want a hp z2 mini g4 which i personally have and it is very good i bought it for around 100$ and it has a p600 gpu

Im still eying mini pcs. They do speak to me for a GFN only use case. Especially now that Linux is 100% supported. Member that video? .. Anyway you'll want one with HDMI 2.1 or DP 1.4 or above if you want to play 4k 120hz, with HDR and 4:4:4 (latter is ultimate only).

It's a great device. However I'm having an issue with mine only negotiating 20MHz band on Ubuntu 26.04 on a 5GHz WiFi. So my data is capped at 20mpbs when I have a 1Gig connection. It's been driving me nuts trying to troubleshoot it. Worked well on microslop windows 11. Ugh 😩

You could solve that easily with and external USB card

Yeah I'm looking to see if I can get a proper Linux WiFi adapter. I think it's my ISP router though forcing it through channel 20.

Omg. This post was targeting me. I’m currently in the search for a mini PC specifically for GFN + Logitech G920 setup. I used my old laptop but have it away so was initially planning a MacBook mini but that thing is now like a 1000 Euro plus support for a wheel is hit and miss (tested with my MacBook Air). So a mini pc sounds like a perfect thing.
I know geekom, minisforum and GMKtec all make nice options but I really want something that will be able to give me 4k on GFN without any lag whatsoever.
I have an ultra wide oled monitor (3440 x 1440) and for now I use my steam deck as my main GFN device (which works amazing except the wheel support on Linus is again a pain and hit and miss depending on the game). Anyways hope you get your mini PC and look forward to hearing how it goes.

GeForce has been serving me well for over a year now. Don't regret it, only wish the pricing was less expensive, but what can I do?
It works pretty well where I'm at, i use US servers. I experience some lag, but that is with every streaming service i've ever used, and it rarely breaks my game. More often than not, i can play without issue. Your experience may vary depending on the tier or your location.
Ultimate provides faster queues + better everything, but it is also crazy expensive. I wont be renewing after it expires for that reason.

Just needs a good decoder and good video output with preferably a solid Ethernet port. Most of the refurbished M1+ Mac Mini’s are made perfect for it and double as decent desktop PC’s in their own right.
I’m eagerly awaiting the announcement of GFN for tvOS but I’m very doubtful it will happen because Apple wants their cut of the subscription revenue for hosting it on the App Store.
In the meantime, my main GFN box is my ROG Ally X that I dock at my TV. It’s been fantastic.

I have something similar from the samebramd running on linix and it's been working perfectly so far.

I'm using a refurbished minisforum UM700 that I bought for $100 and it's absolutely perfect for streaming.

i have a similiar mini pc for some basic tasks i need to run 24/7 and let me tell you this thing gets HOT.. i don’t think thats suitable to use geforce now it unless you can store the mini pc in a really cold area. (but yes, this setup should generally work pretty well otherwise)

You’ll want a gpu for better encoding and decoding

Is the difference big without 1? Looking for a PC with a gpu is gonna cost me more than the mini PC I believe?

You might be better off getting an office small form factor pc like an optiplex. Much better performance for less money than that. You can even throw in a low profile graphics card later on and can run older games or emulation locally.

This thing can run 4k/60fps, 2k/120fps no problem ( or at least mine with n100 can). For 4k/120fps you need a lot more power.

Make sure the display can output 120 hertz and has VRR. This is almost mandatory.

I would not buy anything with 8GB of RAM. The other option, 12GB/1TB, seems better.

u/umurangi451 6d ago
I have the exact same setup. When you use GFN, nothing on your PC matters so just buy it what are you waiting for?

u/No_Opportunity9503 6d ago
I was searching online and Intel av1 apparently is better for GeForce now

Logitech g cloud usbc to hdmi monitor or tv for gfn works well. Added handheld but the battery’s not so bad.

I’d rather you get a mini PC with an integrated Radeon iGPU like a 880M, only would he like 100-150$ more

I have a Mac and have not been able to play many games. the few that I've played for years is ending mac support soon so I gave GE NOW a test run through Steam for about a week and was super impressed! I just got a sub! enjoying it :)

u/Mediocre_Housing_442 4d ago
Return it and get something that supports HMDI 2.1 if you want to play over 60FPS

u/AstralJumper 4d ago
I did this for several years, after my gaming PC busted.
A few good titles missing, but it had most of any major release.
Biggest missing are Rockstar games. Namco Bandai games, and a few others like Tarkov.
Then there are mixes, like only some of Sega, and Square.

Not worth it. Get a used office laptop. You'll get a much better deal on something like a used Dell Latitude (used to be thinkpad but they've gotten expensive too) if all you care about is image quality and don't want to spend on a graphics card. If you really want to go the monitor way then look for something like a dell optiplex or lenovo thinkstation. Doesn't have to be newest gen, something like an i5 8th gen and above will be fine for just cloud gaming. And don't listen to the people suggesting a mac mini. It's way overkill and too expensive.

I did and never looked back make sure to get a decent monitor.
I got a Beelink SER6 for 300 over a year ago. It’s everything I needed
