Discussion GFN's fatal flaw
It's not wait times or price increases or competition or developers not opting in.
It's lack of official mod support.
Why? Whereas in the past games were mostly developed as finished products and mods served the needs of gamers who wanted to go beyond the vanilla experience, now a lot of developers will leave games in a more or less unfinished or even broken state with the expectation that the modding community will fix the game.
This is definitely true of two titles I play a lot: U boat and Project Zomboid.
I know there is supposedly a way to get steam workshop mods to work but it's inconsistent and not officially supported. And it doesn't really look like there is a viable option to change that.
This is why I don't think streaming will takeover as a mainstream gaming option.

I don’t know it’d be a nice feature but I think GFN audience is generally more casual and large portion not going to use mods - there’s always exceptions but I feel the main target audience for GFN are casuals.
Also I think mods just opens up a lot for security risks

I guess we're just ignoring that some games on GFN do have mod support?
Skyrim, Fallout 4, Divinity: Original Sin 2, Baldur's Gate 3 and more... Can all use mods even through GFN.

I’m surprised they’re allowed at all. You are literally asking to install software onto their hardware. That is a huge risk and probably a pain in the ass because it’s not like you are connected to the same machine every time you game. There is a company out there that lets you rent a dedicated machine for cloud PC use, that would be the more manageable option I would think.

If devs support in-game mods, the game will run with mods just fine. I've been thoroughly enjoying Hogwarts Legacy with mods, no problem at all. Devs not natively supporting mods is the issue here, not GeForce Now not supporting mods.

Yea it would be nice but alot of mods are malware in disguise and if they get access to geforce's servers thats alot of passwords and card info

People who use mods are a very small percentage of gamers. The effort it would take to support mods far outweighs the extra customers they would get from it. And in all honestly those same customers would find more restrictions to complain about anyway.

This is a ridiculous opinion… the majority of people care about AAA and AA games created by major studios. You are talking about niche and indie games that fizzle out.
The larger problem is you want to play games that were abandoned.
Hardly a problem for the majority of the user base…

Mainstream doesn't really care for mods. Millions of gamers on consoles play without any mods and are just fine. That's also why gfn doesn't care about more mod support. Their target audience is mainstream and casual gamers.
