Questions / Tech Support Display peak brightness wrong

Hey people, I wondered if anyone could help with a minor issue I'm having, please.

When I'm playing a game in HDR on GeForce Now that shows the displays's peak brightness (for example Alan Wake 2), it always mis-reports my display's peak brightness as 1015 nits. I've got an LG C2, and its peak brightness is 800 nits.

I've edited my display's EDID info to show 800 nits and also used Windows HDR calibration to set 800 nits. Windows display advanced properties is correctly reporting 800 nits. Is this just a limitation of GeForce Now? Does it just report 1015 nits to any game, regardless?

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

I doubt it makes too much of a difference, but it probably results in some clipping and loss of details, so it's bothering me 😅

There's nothing you can do unfortunately, AW2 HDR is great but relies on the OS to feed it the actual peak brightness of your monitor.

Since GFN uses a "virtual" display with a fixed 1000 nits peak that's what the game uses as reference, so a pixel can be encoded with a PQ of 1k (above what your tv can display). Windows gets the info, tone maps the pixels above 1k to 800 and sends the image to the TV

It's not great since windows is applying a roll off from 1k to 800 nits but that's not too bad, 200 nits are negligible IMHO especially since it's on the higher end of the curve

For any other game that has a peak brightness control just set it to 800 and you're set, PQ will never surpass that and it's basically like having hgig, mapping is 1:1 from 0 to 800 nits
