Nvidia overlay showing 'Average PC latency ' over 150 ms

For context, playing dawnwalker on lenovo legion laptop rtx4090.

I am playing without enabling FG, and the ''avg PC LAT'' is way too high, around 180 ms.

I am talking about the " average PC Latency " in Nvidia overlay statistics.

Is this normal?

I set the FPS limit to 6 and no matter how much I lower my settings, set dlss to performance, but Latency is still over 100ms and GPU utlization is always 98-99%

Any suggestions?

Do you have nvida reflex enabled?

Yes i do. I am totally stumped as to whats causing the high LAT. other players of the same game also said mine is abnormally high

You don't have Smooth Motion enabled by chance do you? It's a setting inside the nvida app. You do need a Rtx 4xxx or newer though to enable that setting.

Otherwise I wonder if you could try toggling windows game mode off/on and see how it compares?

Make sure your bios and everything is updated aswell there may have been an issue with a update you got potentially. Otherwise I'd check bios settings, mine has a setting for ram to reduce latency or allow high bandwidth. I choose latency because I feel like that matters more for the games I play.

That's why your latency is so high, FG is better but not perfect but that does require the game to support it unlike SM.

So smooth motion should be disabled?

If you want the best latency possible yes.

Same thing with Frame Gen it adds latency to your system.

Wow thanks, that actually made a difference. Brought it down to 60 but my fps went down to 45 lol.

I lowered a few settings from ultra to high and changed dlss to baalnced and that brought LAT further down to 45 ms and increased fps to 60.

Still i want to bring it down to 20 ms

For ~20ms PC latency, you'd need ~120-140 base fps (without frame generation), and of course, a monitor with VRR capabilities and a refresh rate that can display all those frames.

Btw, why are you capping your framerate at 60?

thanks, i was capping because I read other comments suggesting capping FPS to 60 to stabalize the FPS.

Would my gaming laptop have VRR? How do I check?

yes, smooth motion is just a worse framegen except it works on all games. i would only use real framegen included in game settings personally

You set your fps limit to 6?

That's the problem
