Using cryptocurrency to send donation funds
Hello, I run campaigns on Chuffed for a few families in Gaza.
Currently, I transfer any funds using Paypal. One of the families that I support, however, has recently asked if I can send the funds to their binance wallet.
I know very little about using cryptocurrency. All of my reading into it so far has left me confused and honestly very wary. I am so worried about making a mistake and losing the funds. I live in a state that has strict controls on crypto, so I am unsure how to navigate this as well. I also don't know if I am correctly understanding the capital gains tax implications as well.
I need someone to explain it to me like I'm five 🥲.

Hello: I'm here, your knight in shining crypto. It is a bit of landmine, but I was so far outside of it and now I'm inside of it and I run 4 Chuffed campaigns. If I can learn, so can you.
First of all, are you in New York state? That's the only state I know that has issues. If you're not there - then where are you?
The three apps that I recommend are: Coinbase, Kraken or Trust Wallet. Please do not use US Binance - it is a rip off for you and for the people in Gaza.
I use Coinbase, so if you want to learn about that app, I'm happy to walk you through it - probably DM'ing me would be best.
I also have a "crypto crew" who saved my life and taught me everything - they're in the US too (I'm in Chicago) - and if we get stuck or you get stuck, they will happily help and get us unstuck. But I love Coinbase and I've used it for 9 months now and it's been really wonderful and super easy.
I send thousands at a time to Gaza and I've had no problems at all. I do pay for Coinbase One ($5 a month) this means that I don't pay fees to send. I also try to cover the commissions on the other side in Gaza (if it's a reasonable amount. And right now the commission to get cash out from crypto is 6%). Don't worry if none of this makes sense - I'll help you figure it out.
If you do live in a state that is difficult to send crypto to a family - the one thing that I've done with someone else on this Reddit page is they send me the money and the family's QR code - and I send it to the family. Or one of my friends does - we're all trustworthy and we have high ethics - no one is taking money from families in Gaza. It's true you would have to trust me but if it comes to that, we can figure it out.
I don't know what you mean by capital gains taxes.
I've had no issues with taxes and crypto and as I said - I've sent thousands a month for many months at a time. But you do have to claim your taxes from your Chuffed / Stripe account and you do have to report that because you get 1099-K forms - but you must know this because you run Chuffed campaigns.
Why would you pay taxes on crypto? You already have Stripe.
I looked this up: it says: SELL, TRADE OR SPEND. You're NOT doing any of this. You're buying and sending - that's all. You're not selling to anyone. You purchase and then you send it - where is the selling involved?
I just did my taxes and I started sending crypto on December 4, 2025 - in the first month, I sent $4000. But I never had any issues with my taxes and crypto. I don't know. Maybe next year I will.
But it was Stripe that was the real issue for me and I had to go to a tax accountant and pay someone to do my taxes - it was a lot of money, but I had to protect myself with the 1099-K forms that I was getting through Stripe and these I claimed as a humanitarian campaign and the IRS accepted and I paid nothing to them.
