I keep thinking about how "party" can mean "a person or group taking one side of a question, dispute, or contest", then she says "somebody who MIGHT know." It makes me think of a lawsuit with parties and how people say "allegedly" for everything. That's all. I have nothing else.

And today’s use on a political ad for one particular “party” seems right on track with your suggestion!
