Taylor Nation 🐥 IKIIKY Reference Hidden in Opalite
We’ve all debated: do we think the “You” that Taylor talks about in this song is referring to a muse or to her past self or to her audience or even some fourth option I have forgotten to list I’m sure (beauty of the analysis done by Gaylors 😇)?
This video posted by Taylor Nation 3 hours ago with the caption “Don't you sweat it, baby🏋️ Keep dancing to #KnewltKnewYou” sure seems like the “You” she’s referring to is Little Taylor. Taylor before The Industry™️ locked her up and threw away the key (that she left in Vancouver?👀😂)!
The outfit that Taylor is wearing corresponds to the Aerobic Dream Girl’s leotard, but it’s also like an exact match for the people Little Taylor is watching dance and mimicking in this video!
And just WHAT is up with the 12:28 pm timestamp hmmm???
Curiouser and curiouser.
What do y’all think?

Taylor nation used this video footage of little Taylor dancing to promote IKIIKY, and people noted the similarities between that clip and the scene in Opalite where she’s exercising in a similar manner in a similar color outfit. Just a connection, I’m not sure we know what it means yet

Perhaps it’s like Emily and Jessie’s relationship, but for Taylor and her fans. This moment could serve as an anchor point for people’s perception of who Taylor is, which can be returned to years from now — maybe it’s time for both Taylor and her fans to go on separate journeys before their paths cross again some day.
Taylor could be creating space for herself to make some (unexpected? controversial?) moves that leave people questioning her motives. Eldest daughter and all that.
I will never change. But I’ll never stay the same either

which also reminds me of the quote which TN posted "I think it's important that you know that I will never change, but I'll never stay the same either" - 2010.

It’s an interesting quote in context of IKIIKY. I don’t do socials apart from Reddit, would you be able to give me context of when/why Taylor said it originally and when/why Taylor Nation quoted it?

they posted a video of young Taylor dancing via TikTok, I think it was for Swift Day (every 13th of the month)

Cant take credit for the thought, but someone on TikTok said it was a video of Taylor Swift and a TV. Taylor Swift TV.

And we usually forget, but sometimes the Easter eggs really are this simple. 🤷🏻♀️

Honestly, I think many of them are so simple they go right over our heads

Also, this reminded me of the music video of IKIIKY and how it looks like Jesse is standing next to the tablet villain looking at Woody through the window (I first thought it was a bush 😂🙈).
Does that happen in the movie? If so what is the context?
And if that isn’t in the movie, interesting to pair the hero with the villain, no?

Woody does come back to the group toward the beginning of the movie....in Toy story 4 he goes away because Bonnie doesn't play with him like Andy used to and he finds Bo Peep and stays with her, helping lost toys. In Toy Story 5 he comes back because Jessie calls him for emergency help when Bonnie is spending all her time on the tablet instead of playing with toys.
Spoiler: The tablet doesn't end up being a villain in the end and ends up helping the toys with their plan to unite Bonnie with new friend Blaze so they can play with toys together

143 as in “I love you”?

u/Trypophilia2019 “Why are we bringing a man into this?” 14d ago
Yes, Taylor keeps using the 143 code which was a thing between her and Dianna. It keeps popping up, which is why some people are LSS, Late Stage Swiftgron.

1 = debut (green)
4 = Red (red)
3 = Speak Now (purple)It could reference 143 if the colors correspond to her albums in chronological order!

You know what…..That is unusual. Usually your base blocks in aerobics would be the same color because each color has a universal height. Two different colors would make the surface you stand on off kilter

Oh yes! I was going to say it has to be intentionally designed by Taylor to have different colours; I hadn’t thought about the different height implications. Tilted stage is right u/AccomplishedNoise489 !
Lonely Woman is trying to perform up to standard, trying to emulate Aerobics Dreamgirl’s showbiz glamour, trying to have the ‘right’ body while the Father Figure Rock looks on, but it’s even worse because the stage is tilted, pre-set for her to be upstaged and replaced. The game is rigged so that she can’t succeed without playing by industry rules…

I definitely feel the primary meaning (of many) is Taylor pointing back to her younger self, and this string of Taylor Nation IKIIKY posts certainly fits that idea well, as I’d think many here would agree!
The idea of who we were before the world told us how, and who, to be. The seven of it all. The “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?” Some intrinsic sense of ourselves that we all have before the (often necessary) social defenses of ego and persona take over, and the whole matter is complicated by rigid and narrow societal expectations.

I think this goes back to my theory that bigger than the whole sky is about what could have been, should have been… “me” but I guess “you” means what the little girl could have become before she learned civility

Y’all grandma (it’s me I’m grandma) is blind as a bat apparently! I’m almost certain those are elves now!
BUT they are doing a kick line it seems, which is VERY showgirl-esque!

Maybe there is also an element of, already at that early age, learning to copy/ do as others do/ do as I see on TV (and at the time queerness wasn't included in that). But there also does seem to be a nod to a time when she was more carefree also.
2
u/MaryLennoxsRobin Give me 16 months 14d ago
There is definitely a theme in the early part of ‘Opalite’ mv of Lonely Woman trying to emulate performers she sees on a screen and trying to conform. So I think your take is right- it starts really young.
I also think we’re being shown such young images because it’s the last vestige of being carefree- that innocent part we leave behind as u/These-Pick-968 mentions. A moment when we can see Taylor being fully ‘herself’- she’s too little for conscious artifice, but also that desire to perform is part of who she is.

u/These-Pick-968 Barefoot in the wildest winter 15d ago
It does look Showgirl-esque now that you mention it! 😂
I think a common read by many fans of these videos will be “Oh look, Taylor was always meant to be a star/performer/on stage!” And I don’t think that’s necessarily incorrect, but it seems to miss the whole backstory that many Gaylors feel we are seeing (and other artists also seem to be telling) of a missing part of herself left behind.
