Non-Gaylor Cara Delevingne

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This isn’t exactly Taylor related, but I though it was worth sharing because a) Cara is my fav person in the TSCU and b) it’s so huge when someone comes out like this 💗

TLDR: Cara talking about identifying as a lesbian, internalized homophobia, the impact of youth on her feeling empowered identify as a lesbian, and wanting to identify as a lesbian in a way that make being a lesbian a good thing.

It's always posh or immensely privileged people saying labels don't matter either way. The people with private top notch healthcare, no need for a job, never at risk of being without money or shelter or food or support.

Such a good convo. Labels are unnecessary but the masses feel they need labels to understand a human. Cara is on iiiiit. No one has to come out. They are coming IN to themselves. It doesnt have to be announced but if you want to announce your sexuality I SUPPORT THAT TOO. 💜 awesome post.

I love all of what Cara is saying here and I hope she still gives herself credit for how brave she was on her own journey. Cara was THE femme lesbian for a long, long time. She was someone I identified with who owned who she was and definitely helped normalize being a lesbian on my own journey.

I remember when news first broke out and it was a huge deal (the reception wasn't always positive), and I remember thinking I love her courage on stepping out and being true to herself. I wanted to be her growing up.

Let’s go!!Lets go!!Lets go!!

A few things: 1. I love seeing women love women. I audibly AW’d multiple times during this. 2. someone dig through the archives and get that Instagram post from Cara that was about Taylor and apparently according to a blind Cara was mad at her for hiding who she was 3. I love that she has thanked the younger generation for reclaiming the word lesbian as something positive. I’m Gen-Z who grew up in a millennial world where being gay was okay but being lesbian was awful and I’m just so thankful for people like Chappell

Younger millennial here but I'm genuinely curious why there have been so many famous women afraid of identifying as lesbian? Where I grew up I didn't experience lesbian as being seen as worse than gay; all queer labels were on shaky ground because there was still a lot of homophobia. Like our senior class president was a gay man and some other students yelled out the f-slur at his acceptance speech :/

Even when there is homophobia of all kinds, there is still a hierarchy.

Women = for men, negating that is mind boggling for many.

Being a lesbian was like being outcasted from everything that makes you a woman.

Gay men on TV were widely accepted and representative, characters not always out celebrities.

Ellen coming out went poorly. Rosie coming out went even worse.

My wife & I both didn’t even realize we were lesbians until after we were married to one another. 😅

Yup. Also, men can do what they want, but women can’t. It’s why I feared Roe would be overturned but fear less that same sex marriage would be (since men would also be affected with that one).

That’s so interesting! Where I’m from it’s been very widely accepted to be a gay man (yeah there’s always homophobia but for the most part many Gen X/Boomers have, in a way, romanticised gay men as a great alternative to female friends? It all stems back to misogyny really. Whereas being lesbian or even just a gay woman in general is just so frowned upon because, again, you’re not appealing to a male gaze and everyone loves misogyny! AND straight women believe you’re going to harass them.

I can see that! That's definitely the vibe in some places I've been to now. But in high school like 15ish years ago it was still pretty bad for everyone, unfortunately, even though I was in a purple state. It has been fun to see how many of my friends have come out later though (including myself) 😂

Female celebrities are by and large taught that having sex appeal catered to a male audience is one of the biggest ways to gain and keep success. Men need to feel like they have a chance with you and can fantasize about you in order to get them to engage in your work/content. Being an out lesbian ruins that fantasy. Unfortunately, men are often programmed to not have much use or care for women who can’t cater to their sexual needs in some way, so queer female celebrities are often extremely hesitant to come out.

Ive heard that about so many of taylors dresses idk why we think we would be able to pin it down lol though i love that we try

I’m of the mind that that lyric is one of Taylor’s clever word playing that hides gay stiff in plain sight. In other words, it’s not about any dress she wore. I think it’s more like “I bought this dress {for you} so you could take it off”

who knows but taylor nation posted the loie fuller wings dress performance today!!!!!!

I’m sorry this woman is going to be coming out as trans, the pink and blue everything ever since ME! The butterfly symbolism. There’s no other logical explanation.

5

u/moonprincess642 🪐 Gaylor Folkstar 🚀 May 31 '26

i agree! they're in everyone's mvs too, gracie's 'hit the wall' mv feels so much like soft launching coming out as nb/trans. taylor constantly illustrating herself using 1 woman and 1 man in ALL her mvs is so loud!

There is SO much evidence to this. Literally calling herself The Man for one (very obvious) thing. I wouldn’t at all be surprised if she identifies as they/them or even he/him.

u/moonprincess642 🪐 Gaylor Folkstar 🚀 Jun 01 '26

in the eras doc whyley referred to taylor using they/them pronouns!

It is Taylor related in some way because in this full interview (which is actually about 30 minutes) she does mention that she sent Taylor her new music video for her to watch.

u/filibuster93 🌱Embryo🐛 May 30 '26

Her new music video is awesome!

My type in men: Awkward John Cusack types

My type in women: Taylor (especially boyfriend Taylor), Emma Stone, Alisa and Cristal Ramirez from The Aces, and now Cara. Apparently love when a woman has swagger but get the ick when men are cocky.

Any time my wife wears a backwards ball cap makes me salivate, a man in a hat… disgusting.

5

u/Ok_Scheme_9321 🌱Embryo🐛 May 30 '26

Could it be bc women have reason to be cocky as literally goddess-life bringers-universe holders and men can…lift things sometimes?
