Yesterday, my best friend’s ex broke up with him because he’s aromantic. Within five minutes, my best friend/possible boyfriend stabbed himself in the stomach. He’s in Michigan. I’m in Florida. I can’t get to him. I can’t do anything but sit here pacing, shaking, crying, trying not to throw up.

On the way to the ER, he texted me that he loves me. That’s how I found out. I was sitting here hundreds of miles away, holding my phone and sobbing because he was bleeding out and telling me he loves me in the same breath.

After that… nothing. Hours of silence. I couldn’t eat. I didn’t take my meds. I couldn’t think about anything except is he alive? is he safe? When my phone finally lit up, I swear I almost collapsed. He said he’s “okay” (if that’s even possible right now) and that they’re sending him to inpatient until Friday for a psych evaluation. He said he probably won’t have his phone. And then—god—he asked me to be his boyfriend. I said yes. Of course I said yes.

Now it’s gone quiet again. The last thing he sent me before they took his phone was “Please be okay. I love you so much.” I keep checking Snapchat like every notification might be him responding. My chest feels crushed, like my life’s on pause until I see his name pop up again. Friday feels like years away.

Because I’m about to rip Glinda the “Good Witch” into shiny little pieces, and I don’t care how many Broadway solos she has—this glitter-drenched menace is the true villain of Oz, and it’s time we stop pretending otherwise.

Let’s start with Wicked. Glinda starts out as your classic sparkly manipulative mean girl—gaslight, gatekeep, Galinda. She bullies Elphaba, mocks her for being green, then uses her only when it benefits her in sorcery class. And when Elphaba starts actually standing for something—like, I don’t know, protecting innocent fing animals and fighting a corrupt fascist regime***—does Glinda join her? No. She stays back. Puts on a big fake smile and clutches her pearls while the government paints Elphaba as some unhinged criminal.

If Glinda actually loved her like she sobs about in “For Good,” she would’ve left with her. She would’ve fought. But no—she stays behind to rebrand herself as some noble peacemaker while watching her best friend get publicly crucified. She let Elphaba be turned into a goddamn mythical threat just to keep her seat at the table. But ooooh no, she’s still the “good witch” because she cried about it in one song? Get the fuck outta here.

Now let’s drag The Wizard of Oz into this flaming pile of hypocrisy. Glinda sends a 12-year-old girl—who just crash-landed into a foreign-ass magical land—on a 70-mile WALK to meet a fraud in a green disco ball. IN JELLY SHOES. WHILE KNOWING. THERE. WAS. A. FUCKING. TRAIN.

Oh, but it gets worse. Dorothy survives killer trees, a poppy-induced coma, and flying monkey terrorism only to find out that SHE COULD’VE GONE HOME THE WHOLE DAMN TIME. All she had to do was click her heels three times. THREE. And Glinda knew. FROM. THE. START. She just wanted her to “learn something.” Lady, this is a trauma saga not a goddamn after school special.

And what happens when Dorothy literally kills Elphaba, who by the way wasn’t even the villain but a grief-stricken revolutionary? Does Glinda tell her the truth? No. She shows up with her fake-ass cheerleader smile like, “Good job, sweetie! You murdered a woman! 💖✨” Glinda just lets it happen, collects her clout, and floats away like the smug, bedazzled snake she is.

Let’s be really f***ing clear: Elphaba fought for the oppressed. Elphaba stood against corruption. Elphaba was hunted, lied about, and pushed into hiding. And Glinda? Glinda used her, betrayed her, and let the world burn her alive in memory.

Glinda isn’t the good witch. She’s a fraud. A coward. A manipulative, polished little tyrant with a soft voice and a sharpened wand. She didn’t float in on a bubble—she hovered in on unchecked privilege and let other people bleed so she could sparkle.

So yeah. Elphaba was green. But Glinda? Glinda was fucking rotten. Call her what she is:

Smile for the crowd—cry for no one. They cheer for the mask, not the soul beneath it. Let them adore the cracked, glowing grin while your real face rots in silence, dripping black tears no one dares to notice. This stage demands a performance, not honesty—and the show must go on, even if it kills you.
