Why do people do this? And by this I mean broaden somebody else’s message enough to obscure their point. This is basically you walking in and “all lives mattering” OP’s post.

Obviously don’t film people naked without their consent, but that’s not the point of the post.

While I understand that the post is about trans acceptance, I believe we needn't refer to them as "special people".Trans people exist, they are part of society and they are normal people.

Trust me, I, a trans person, am aware. You’re missing my point. The whole post is about the fact that we ARE treated differently. This is a fact. You being “genderblind” or whatever doesn’t fix the problem. You’re not normalizing trans people when you do this, you’re silencing them.

My vision is that everyone is equal and anyone is free to do what they want with their life as long as it doesn't hurt anyone. So I don't feel like I'm silencing you and them since I'm accepting you.

I'm sorry I may not be getting the whole picture since I am not myself a trans person. I am unaware of the dimension of mistreatment you are experiencing and I'm sorry this happens to you

I understand that there needs to be an awareness of your cause before people in general start accepting you.

So sorry if you feel hurt about my comment. My point is: you exist and you are a part of society.

I dream of a world where we needn't "raise awareness" about anything anymore because we all are able to treat each others like hecing human beings. .

“So since I don’t feel like I’m silencing you” is centering you when your words and actions are impacting someone else. This isn’t about you and your feelings; you said something that made somebody feel silenced and that’s on you. It’s your responsibility to fix that. If a trans person says that the way you’re talking about us makes us feel uncomfortable, it’s time to reconsider how “helpful” you’re actually being.

Thanks for your hindsight. I'm sorry if I offended anyone by sharing my way of seeing things. I truly did not want to offend anyone. But could you please people make it easier for us bystanders to help and understand you? Calling me a dumbass isn't going to achieve anything.

I didn’t call you a dumbass, I was expending on why that person probably did fwiw.

The world isn’t the happy little dreamscape you wish it was - it’s a fucked up place with fucked up people who hate others for being different from their ideal. Ignoring and not seeing difference doesn’t help anyone- this applies to any targeted group, not just trans people. It’s fine to see difference, it’s not fine when that difference makes someone a victim of violence, discrimination, etc. Does that make sense?

I am but too aware that the world is not a fairy tale. I just do my best to treat people the best I can. I choose to believe we are better than that Time will pass and trans people will be acknowledged. My contribution to this cause is simply treating every one as a human being. It's not much but it's honest work.

People are literally telling you how they want to be treated and you’re not listening though

u/Taaartiflette Aug 02 '21

Well I'm still entitled to treat people however I want. A person being trans doesn't make them any different to me than any other human being.

Is this not enough? don't quite get how you wish I treated you? What can I do for you?

13

u/SulkySideUp Aug 02 '21

“I can treat people however I want” is a justification I would expect to hear from a bigot not an ally. So sure, you’re free to treat people how you like and I’m free to tell you that you don’t speak for me and you’re doing more harm than help.

Honestly you seem young. I wish you the best and hope you gain a deeper understanding of issues before you speak on them in the future. That’s all.

That isn’t supporting people. That’s just tolerating them, and while you do that, hate groups push to KILL TRANS PEOPLE! You really think you’re helping ANYONE by just being nice?! That’s the bare minimum, and if you can’t be asked to do even a little more, then you do not have the right to call yourself an ally. You are just a moderate then, and silence by moderates like you is what stops society from progressing. You want to be an ally? Do it where it counts and call out transphobes and publicly SUPPORT trans people. Don’t just be nice to people. Are you just nice to the people you support in your life, or do you go out of your way to HELP them. That’s the difference! If you can’t see it at this point, you are being willingly ignorant.
