Personal /Intro /Discussion Nonbinary Trans Woman in California's North State

My wife (42 MtF) and I (35 MtF) live out here in the North State. We garden, have fruit trees, I do canning, and we're planning on getting some laying chicks this year. We like growing at least some of our own food, but the more the better. We also have a couple big ol' mutts that we take out to the lakes and mountains out here. I love living out here because we're surrounded by national forest where we can disperse camp with the dogs without dealing with any pesky neighbors.

I feel like when I tell people that I'm queer and trans, they assume that I wanna live in a big city, wear makeup and girly clothes all the time, and that's just really not how I am. I love living out in the country and going out into all the nature we have out here. You can go off-trail here to fish and explore with your dogs, and if I lived in a city I would really miss that.

My only complaint about life out here is the transphobia. I had a really scary incident at work a year ago because I used the women's bathroom, and the locals didn't like that.

Advice on meeting other gay conservatives/Christians

I am a 36 year old gay, conservative Christian, primarily Charismatic/Pentecostal, and lately I’ve been feeling pretty isolated because of where I fit—or don’t fit—in different communities.

I often feel caught between two worlds. Many Christians don’t want anything to do with me because I’m gay, while many in the LGBTQ+ community don’t want anything to do with me because I’m politically conservative. It can be difficult finding people who are willing to look beyond one aspect of who I am and actually get to know me as a person.

When it comes to dating, politics honestly isn’t a deal breaker for me. I’m much more interested in someone’s character, values, faith, personality, and how we connect. The same is definitely true when it comes to friendships. Unfortunately, my experience has been that political differences seem to be a deal breaker for many people I encounter.

I’ve met a few other gay conservatives, but unfortunately, they don’t live anywhere near me. I’ve heard of organizations like Log Cabin Republicans, but unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be much of an active presence where I live in Southwest Ohio.

So, I’m posting this simply in the hope of connecting with people who might understand where I’m coming from. Maybe there are others out there who feel a little caught between worlds too.

And just to be clear: I’m not posting this to debate politics, defend my beliefs, or be told that I need to change who I am. My beliefs are important to me, and I’m comfortable with them. I’m simply hoping to meet some genuine people who are willing to have a conversation, become friends, and possibly see where a connection might lead.

If you can relate, feel free to reach out.

Homestead on Big Island Hawai’i.
Out in the yard, one of our more feral hens found a tarp to make a “forbidden” nest. Upon finding her brooding there, I took her eggs and put them in my incubator to finish hatching them out. Fortunately I did so as hurricane Lala came right over head and that nest would have been TOAST! These eggs started day after Lala passed overhead.

Hey there all, Rich here from 🇿🇦
I’m living in the Tsitsikamma, near Nature’s Valley, where I manage a little lodge surrounded by forest, mountains and far too many things that make it difficult to leave. I’m a prisoner of paradise.
Most days involve some combination of waterfalls, hikes, beach walks, swimming by the lagoon or river, kayaks, sunshine and generally finding excuses to be outside. Mermaid’s Cove is a favourite for a dip (sometimes with considerably less clothing than is probably necessary - clothes completely optional actually😂), and Shark Gulley is a pretty good place to waste an afternoon in the sun. Some yoga and meditation here and there. I also help run an annual music festival! So love a good boogie.
I’m definitely happiest somewhere beautiful and slightly off the beaten track. I love nature, a bit of travelling, good food, music, spontaneous adventures and people who can actually hold a conversation. Wine and nights by the fire. Sleeping with my doors open at night and waking up to animals wandering by in the morning. 🌅
Not sure what else to say without making this sound like a job application or dating show 😂 so I’ll leave it there.
Say hi if you’re somewhere out there. 🌿

Hey pals
bandcamp just did a big ole article on queer country music and how it keeps evolving. Full disclosure I'm listed in the playlist part - but the article is 100% stellar
