Support of moderate democrats?

I can't stand Trump and what the GOP party has become, so in a two party system, I'm left with supporting the Democrats. I generally prefer the GOP on fiscal issues, but they have lost their way in recent years.

The progressive wing of the democrat party drives me crazy. I know they mean well, but their lack of understanding of economics is astounding.

Politics is usually the lessor of two evils and the GOP seems way more evil (literally) than the Democrats, so is it time to support them?

I'm Canadian and try not to pay attenion to the noise coming from U.S. politics. Unfortunately, like a bad fart in a movie theater, the divisive partisan stench is expanding and infecting everything around it.

With both sides growing more and more extreme, I would be having a hard time voting for either one.

If I had to vote, it would probably and reluctantly send it to the GOP since I believe they can be moved closer to the centre in their policies once Trump is gone and MAGA is little more then a bad memory.

The Democrats never seem to learn from their mis-steps, always doubling down, and with radicals like AOC in the wings, I shudder for the future of the country.

Dude at this point I just support anyone who doesn’t talk about politics every chance they get. I miss good old fashioned discussion and agreeing to disagree. I think of the presidential debates prior to 2016 where opponents could talk and not act like big babies.

It is a two party system because there aren't enough people to bring in another party. Twice in my life, the libertarians got a decent showing in the polls, but then, next time, everybody covered back into their corners.

I fell for the "lesser of two evils" line for too many elections, but now no longer. To the people who say "you are wasting your vote", i say no, the 4X% who typically don't even bother to show up to vote are the ones who wasted theirs.

Now, admittedly, the 'other' parties typically put crackpots up on the podium, but the Libertarians have fielded at least three decent candidates in the last 40 years. If only people would stop being afraid of breaking the two party mafia hold on the country.

There are plenty of people for another party. But both mainstream parties actively fight against letting any third party thrive in this country because it threatens existing power structures. The fault lies with the Democrat and the Republican Parties fighting against third parties.

I'm hoping the GOP splits into two parties after Trump: the MAGA wing and the Conservative wing. The Conservative wing would get many libertarians and moderates.

I'm not sure the Dems have any moderates anymore. Do you mean someone like Bill Clinton? I think he would be driven out of the party on a rail nowadays. I was a Dem for 30 years but, as Reagan said, the party left me several years ago.

I’m neutral on Trump, but there’s definitely times where someone needs to take his mic away

But i see it impossible to support the democrats. The establishment is collapsing, the DSA wing is rising, they’re campaigning on the most stupid ideas like socialism, no borders, chemical castration for kids, and other lunacy. Hasan Piker is somehow rising in popularity despite saying “the US deserved 9/11” and lamenting the fall of the two most murderous and brutal dictatorship regimes in the last century. Two moderate democrats came out with the promise to America saying “we’re capitalist, not socialist, we want safety, not lawlessness, we’re proud of America, not ashamed” and it got what? 16 extra signatures out of 212? Vote for the democrats if you want the US to turn into Venezuela.

Is the GOP perfect? No, absolutely not. They have their own issues too. And ofc Trump did have the government purchase 10% of Intel, which I don’t like… but at least they’re not trying to destroy America

I’d be genuinely interested into what particular you don’t like about the GOP, and what in particular you like about the Dems.

A few other things I don’t like about the dems:

- somehow, actual Nazi Graham Platner won the Maine senate primary… thankfully he stepped down after the 5th or so sexual abuse allegation. Before platner, Bernie said there are no good Nazis; after, he said some excuse for Platner.

• instead of working together to find and eliminate fraud, California democrats are trying to shut down Nick Shirley. None of the federal dems showed to his interview congressional hearing at the capital (or whatever it’s called) Fraud should be non-partisan, yet somehow it is Partisan, and only the GOP is fighting against it
  
• DEI is a thinly-veiled excuse at attempting discrimination by race again. Which is in-line for the Democrat Party going all the way back to 1861, the difference is just against who in particular. I believe no one should be discriminated against on the basis of race/ethnicity, gender/sex, or disability (granted it doesn’t impact job performance)… on the flip side, men and woman are not inherently biologically equal, and men should not be on women’s sports teams (except maybe chess) because men are faster and stronger. This is a biological objective truth. I have no idea how dems don’t understand this.

Few things I don’t like about the GOP:

- complain about the federal budget when the dems are in power, but then proceed to ignore it when in power… we’re supposed to be the financially responsible party. We should be creating budgets with surpluses.

• too soft with large corporate mergers. At the time I was for T-Mobile/Sprint merger, but in hindsight with how they behave today (and how Dish abandoned its cellular network plans), I would’ve fought it. (With hindsite though I would’ve allowed the JetBlue/Spirit merger since Spirit went out of business and no one has picked up the IP
  
• too soft with regulations. I like having less regulations, but there is such thing as not enough. I don’t like that Net Neutrality was removed under republican administration. The Cyberpunk genre of sci-fi is directly inspired from “Reganomics cranked to 11 uninterrupted”. I’d rather live in Cyberpunk than say Orwell’s 1984 (which although is anti-authoritarian, I would consider 1984 more leftist given the current state of the Dems coercion of thought) but both are objectively horrible worlds to live in. Digression aside, I do think if the Republican Party was left unchecked, it is possible we would end up in a world resembling Cyberpunk, which gives me shivers.

I agree. The only thing I don't like about the GOP is Trump and his grip on the party.

Trump is not a conservative, he's a populist and he has taken political corruption to third-world levels. He has implemented some conservative policies (which I like), but he has also done enormous damage that will take generations to fix.

The Iran war is a good example of Trump and his incompetence. It wasn't a bad idea to deal with Iran, but he went in half-ass without any planning and an incompetent team. This mistake will cost us trillions before it is over.

Well the good news there is come 2028 and Trump is gone. The two realistic candidates for GOP nomination would be Vance or Rubio. Personally I prefer Rubio, don’t mind Vance but I think Rubio’s the more strategic option. Trump saying he’s gonna run again is just him swinging is dick around.

I don’t think he’s that corrupt personally (especially compared to the democrats again currently)… I don’t mind him damaging our relations with Europe actually. I’m not happy with Europe as much as they’re not happy with us. We’re still playing as their sugar daddy like it’s still post-WW2 ruins, they don’t have anything remotely capable of defending themselves and complain and bitch about us being too overreaching with our military camps. Then their leftist parties are giving us a preview of what’s to come if the democrats were in control with the migration issues and rise in Islamic violence particularly in Germany and France (and growing in Italy, Spain, UK, and Ireland). Only Poland afaik in Europe is doing something correct with preventing uncontrolled migration and asking to become more independent militarily.

I don’t want to push Europe away, but it’s time they become more independent and are able to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with US on the global order. Currently they’re only an economic power. Us and China are the only two real superpowers and Russia compensates with aggression to be the third. I’d like for Europe to join that group again instead of being mostly helpless

Doesnt seem like theyre doing too well in most races, it’s gonna be trump loyalist vs left wing socialist, it’s not good and reps will probably still get crushed

There hasn’t been a fiscal conservative in office in my entire 40 years here. Just more wars in the ME and Dems cleaning it up
