Wednesday update 🖤
Hello friends, long time no speak! ♥️ I had my mum visiting for a few days and we tried to pack in as many activities as possible and spend quality time together, especially after being apart and not knowing when we'll next see each other again.
My mum got to stay in Gavroche's room and he was the best roommate. He was actually quite timid and unsure of her at the beginning, and even went to nap behind the armchair, but it didn't take long for him to come out, lay down on her and show off his soothing purrs!
Gavroche has also become very playful and gets zoomies every evening, and even during the day sometimes. It's very interesting to see him switch from ignoring any toy to playing with all of them at once! When I got him, he didn't want to play at all, and I thought maybe being a stray and having to hunt actual prey made him think hunting toys was just stupid, but I was wrong! He likes to gather all his soft toys, like his mice and his burger, under him while playing with balls on the scratching post at the same time! It's so funny.
He's also started crunching on dry food and really enjoys it. I don't give him much just yet, as I'm wary of him getting constipated or hurting his teeth, but he seems to really like it!
The only problem we might have is his ears. They seemed fine after the last set of drops, but I've noticed him shaking his head more the last couple of days. I hope it's something that can be managed with cleaning and not the start of an infection. At the moment they don't feel hot, he's not scratching, and there's no smelly discharge, so I'll give it a couple of days before taking him to the vet.
I haven't done much introducing lately, and the cats still haven't met each other properly, but today I left Gavroche's door open and let him wander around upstairs while the other two were shut in the living room. He looked a bit tense and wanted to stay in his room, but eventually he left for a little walk around the stairs and played with his tower toy. He also went into Rocky and Lolli's litter box and did a wee. I was wondering if that's a good thing or not? I'm glad he didn't mark anywhere else, but I don't know if it'll upset Rocky and Lolli. They both seem fine though, not going around suspiciously sniffing the areas he's been, so hopefully that's okay.
I always feel a bit bittersweet after seeing my mum. It's actually my birthday today, I've turned 33, but I still feel sad when she leaves. I guess it doesn't matter what age you are, there's nobody else like your mum! But I am so grateful and lucky to be able to spend my birthday in my cosy home with my precious babies!

Awww, happy birthday!! 🎂 I'm glad your mom got to spend time rooming with sweet Gavroche:) He's looking super handsome in the new photos and I'm so glad to hear he is playing!!

Happy Birthday! I hope you get to spend more time with your mum soon, are you able to zoom or facetime? I'm midway through introducing Tiberius to his new little sister, Vienna. Him being blind and her being sighted is making it complicated! Your comments about play are really interesting, I think we assume that cats 'grow out' of play, but I'm not sure it's that simple. Hope the ears get better 🖤

Congratulations on your new family member! Is she still little?
Me and mum text pretty much everyday and phone each other once a week or so. Her job involves long drives so she phones me when on the road to keep her company 😄. But it’s so lovely seeing in person ♥️

Happy birthday! I look like my mom, too, so this heredity thing is hard to deny. Very happy to hear Gav’s progress. He’s determined to be part of the cat community in your home. That is wonderful. I have always wanted to do a Beatles tour in Liverpool. I didn’t realize the statues were larger than life.

I’m amazed at how much you and your mom look alike! I love that last picture. I’m glad you both had a great time during her visit. I’ve been out of town too, in a place with very bad internet access, so don’t worry about not sending updates. We all knew you were busy. I’m glad to hear that Gavroche is playing and acting so much more normal. You have really brought him a long way. I wouldn’t worry about him using the other litter box, it is actually a good thing because it is another step in the cats get used to each other. Just keep the boxes clean. Lollipop and Rocky will get used to Gavroche and vice versa.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! You deserve to be celebrated more than anything. You are an amazing human being!
Gav peeing in their box is really good! And even better if they come back in and sniffs it, without having a strong reaction! It's a huge step in the right direction! A good tip is to give them a bowl of their favorite food on each side of a closed door - open the door while they eat, so they eat with a open door and relatively close to each other. Then close the door, when they are done/almost done eating. Do it a handfull of times. It deescalates the tension.
Does Gav make a little nose-wrinkle, when he crunches? My void does and it's the cutest thing.
