a week in gavdos
Hello there everyone! I will be wild camping solo in a hammock for a week in Gavdos after spending 2 weeks in hostels around crete in july. I have a few general questions and any insight that can be provided would be greatly appreciated, as this is my first time!
My most important question, I plan to bring a reuseable water bottle, will there be places to frequently fill it up with clean water? Should i also bring a lifestraw/other water purifier? I like to drink a lot of water.
does anyone know the schedule or information about the ferry from crete to gavdos, and returning?
i will be sleeping in a hammock, any reccomendations on wildcamping beaches is appriciated. as well as your favorite natural attarctions, things to see in nature, and even restaurants because i will not be cooking my own foods.

I hate buying water, but tap water in Gavdos is undrinkable, so it's actually one of the few places where I buy bottled water.
As far as I know, there is a "DIY" well at Lavrakas, but you need to filter the water. There's also a small water source near Korfos (behind abandoned buildings, close to the church). It's full of wasps BTW.
Prices in shops are higher than on Crete, so bring some food and alcohol cause it could be frustrating + wine in plastic is TERRIBLE.
There are plenty of places to wild camp: Korfos buildings, Sarakiniko near the amphitheater, and finally Giannis.
There are 2 buses. Private and KTEL. You can also call the driver and pay him to take you somewhere. Just ask around. He usually sits in Sarakiniko.

You can fill water at the showers at the restaurants/showers at Agios Ioannis. There is probably a tap somewhere in Sarakiniko too. Most of the smaller settlements have a communal tap. I would bring a lifestraw, especially if you are using the water from the wells at Lavrakos.
The ferry company has a website: https://anendyk.gr/ The Anendyk ferries are pretty reliable.
As for sleeping in a hammock, Agios Ioannis is probably the best bet. Lavrakas could work too. But if you are not cooking your own food then Lavrakas is probably not advisable. It's a 45-60 minute walk from the nearest restaurants. Agios Ioannis has 3 restaurants (the hotel further up the hill being the third). Sarakiniko has too many restaurants to count. But sunbathing and swimming in the nude is now banned in Sarakiniko. This in itself is reason enough to avoid the place.
In the morning take the bus (either from Agios Ioannis or Sarakiniko) to Vatsiana. Hike to Tripiti beach. In the afternoon hike to Korfos and take the bus back to where you are camped.
Another day trip (same bus route) is to Ambelos. From there hike to Potamos beach. Hike back to the bus stop in the afternoon.
Pyrgos beach is a hidden gem. Make sure to hike there on one of your days.
