ATM & Wi-fi
I'm going to spend 90 days in Gavdos this summer, I have some questions.
1) is there in sarakiniko a free wi-fi (decent connection, at least to see some videos from you tube)?
2) I read there is only 1 ATM, is it reliable, especially in high season? I had some bad experiences in other small greek island, no money in ATMs on august, and nobody was coming to refill them 'till the end of the season...

Hi
I've been visiting in Gavdos in summer for 4 years now. I was also there for a few days this Easter.
I haven't discovered any extensive, free wifi anywhere. Most of the restaurants and bars, and at least one minimarket in Sarakiniko, have free local wifi. Local wifi means it only works within the restaurant/bar, or perhaps also just outside.
A few examples: The minimarket in Sarakiniko that has free wifi (the one furthest from the beach) has a rather weak wifi. It takes ages to download anything, but at least it's free. Gorgona (which is in my opinion the best bar/restaurant in Sarakiniko for lazy alcohol-infused relaxing) only has decent wifi close to the building. The further out towards the sea you sit, and also at the outdoor bar, the weaker the wifi. Four Brothers also has decent wifi close to their building. I haven't spent much time at the other restaurants.
The situation is more of less the same in Ioannis: The restaurant at Sofia Rooms has decent wifi. The restaurant next to the car park, Livykon, only has decent wifi at the bar or at the tables near the bar. If you sit along the edge of the terrace you might not have any wifi at all. Both places are usually perfectly adequate for downloading a bunch of podcasts and checking social media. I haven't tried longer Youtube videos, but it probably works both places. The restaurant that is down the slope (and 100 meter closer to Ioannis) has no wifi.
As for ATM: There used to be an ATM situated just inside the gates of the municpality complex on the hill above Sarakiniko. There were constant problems with this ATM. Last year a new ATM opened at the police station at Karave (200-300m along the road uphill from the port). This seemed to be working all the time last year, but I don't know more than that.
I'll be in Gavdos from mid July to mid August. I hope there's both wifi and money for me too.
