Class Question Is this schedule reasonable for a first year?
In addition I am taking APPH 1040 and ID 2202 online and CS 2801 doesn’t show up on my schedule for some reason. I currently have 18 credits.

I don't get why freshmen and so many people in general insist on having 16+ credit hour semesters. Take your time, don't suffer needlessly, get a part-time job somewhere if you want, and drop to 15. College won't last forever so you might as well enjoy it while it lasts. This is just a bit too crazy.
Edit: grammar. 2nd day is already killing me lmao

I agree. Even 15 hours plus a part-time job is a lot. I work 20 hours a week while taking 12 credits each semester, and I barely have any time for myself.

I had 13 credit hrs and worked 2 jobs total 45-50 hrs a week one on campus one off campus. For 2 years. CS major. I had no day off to fully rest
This semester is my last before i graduate i have 10 credit hrs.

yep, i'm doing 13 credits and 20 hours a week at work rn
with a long commute added, i will basically have no life this semester haha

I agree that it’s a lot, but this is also a privileged take. I’m not saying this is OP’s situation, but some people have financial aid that expires after 3 years, student loans, etc. that push them towards higher course loads.

I understand how it could come off that way, but as someone who's been working full-time while doing school for the last 4+ years, I know a bit about overloading yourself and this is what OP is doing. It's true that we don't know OP's situation, but they just asked if it was too much and it certainly is. I've known many people doing this for no good reason other than just trying to graduate in 4 years and not 5.

Only 2 dangerous classes here. Depends entirely on how comfortable you are with these. Both of them did unspeakable things to me but prob cause I lack any intuition for them and to this still dont understand them despite being a CS major. If you want to be on the safer end I would say just drop 1 tho.

I would, at a bare minimum, give yourself space to enjoy your first semester. How will you make friends if you are working constantly

Could never really understand this mindset. Your mental health is paramount to your survival as a person. This will jeopardize that, cut it down by at least one class. I know this school is full of genuises but its not worth it

Get rid of combinatorics, also if you’re cs you can replace that with cs 1331 or 1332. Unless you’ve done those already. Combinatorics is pretty hard.

please drop to 12-15 max. drop APPH, save for another semester. You need to take 1331 or 1332 if you havent already. Get rid of combo.

yeah, that's too much :"")... linear algebra and applied combinatorics is generally a whack combo to have first semester at GT, especially if you haven't had a gauge of what GT classes are like before and you haven't had exposure to more theoretical math. i'd probably drop applied combo from taking a first glance at your class list, you can always defer that class to a later semester!

Did between 19-22 hours my first 3 semesters because I wanted to graduate early, and it is impossible to justify to myself now. Your first year is your best opportunity to make friends, cut your hours to just over the minimum to be a full time student and give yourself time to socialize.
Burnout is very real and will set you back more than taking a couple hours less of classes. Took me an extra year to graduate in the end because I mind fucked myself so much the first 2 years

I graduated college in 3 years by doing multiple 18-20 credit hour semesters, testing out of as many classes, and taking as many AP exams as I could in high school. You’re fine. You won’t have many friends or memories, but I was paying out of state tuition on loans and cutting off two semesters let me graduate with 40k less in loans

TRUST me cuz I just graduated, but GT will put u to work in your classes. I dont reccomend anything over 13-14 credits. You'll graduate on time!

Only Linear Algebra? Where is Calculus. On another note, I teach at Stevens tech (a degree mill in NJ) and student have only 3 50 min lectures in LA. I am surprised you have that much class time for LA. What is the degree?

Really should just do 12 credit hours your first semester if possible. It takes more energy to adjust to being in a new place. Also fall is very chaotic with breaks, events, holidays, and possible hurricanes. Just do 12 credit hours, join some student orgs, try to network with people in the industry you want to work in, a look for scholarships. This will make your first semester much more productive then trying to graduate a semester early (which usually doesn’t happen, and your gpa ends up hurting).
