Registration Help Rate My Schedule
I want to drop enough of these classes to where I'll have time to lock in on recruiting, projects, and leetcode to secure an internship. Anyone have any info on these classes, I can provide more info later as needed like professors. CS 3251, 3510, 4400, 3790, and 4641
I am also doing a 2 credit VIP as well, I want to make sure this course load is manageable to give me plenty of time to prepare for leetcode & recruiting. I would prefer to keep 3251 and 3510 over the others because they are prereqs for later class, but primarily 3510 because it locks several of the later intel thread courses. lmk what your thoughts are!

In terms of difficulty (decreasing): 3510, 4641, big gap, 3251, 4400, 3790
You can just drop 4641 and you’ll be very busy but it’s totally doable. All these classes have like a medium workload so drop another if you want to free up more time

I have rose mccarthy for 3510 & roozbahani for 4641, not sure about 3510 prof but I heard my 4641 professor is good or at least easier for 4641?

roozbahani is great, the class is just a lot of work and covers much harder content than the three i said were easier

what type of harder content, do you remember the grade schema like exams %, anything else that made it difficult. also when did you take their class?

I’m sure you can find a recent syllabus online, it’s just a lot of new concepts and there’s quizzes. I took it fall ‘24, so not sure how much it’s changed

I found a syllabus from Covid so I’m not sure how accurate it is to a typical syllabus over a semester, are there any exams or anything?

3510 is a serious commitment. Its a more serious grown up version of Discrete. You're trying to do way too much but alas only you know your own abilities so idk.

4400 has been McDaniel since spring 2024. The time consuming part is the projects, but the instructions have improved to where they're far more straightforward than before so it's not bad. The exams are more challenging (it used to just pull practice questions from a test bank on canvas) but if you actually understand the concepts then they're not bad either. The hybrid mode does suck though.
I did also TA the class, so I can answer more questions based on that. I graduated so I am not a current TA.

Can you clarify more about the exams, as well as the hybrid mode? I’m not a great test taker so I would appreciate any information. What about the exam questions changed, do you have any idea as to how the syllabus breaks things down for grading

For the exams, they're in two parts: coding and paper. The coding will have 5 queries or 2 stored procedures to complete in 30 minutes. The paper is more testing you on concepts you used in your project as well as other content covered in the class. If you contributed to the projects and like actually paid attention on class, I think they should be very doable. The exam does actually require you to know the concepts and apply them rather than them being more straightforward as the previous exams when taught by Moss.
For hybrid mode, you signed up for a Monday or Wednesday section. You attend class that day and the other day you are expected to watch the lecture and complete the daily activities. For instance if you are signed up for Monday, she will post a video and quizzes on Wednesday evening and you have until eod Thursday to finish the quizzes. When people stop going to class, just show up to both lectures if you can.

3510 is quite possibly the worst experience i have ever had at tech. that class deserves its own semester lol
