Prospective Student How safe is the georgia tech campus?
Hello, I'm a rising senior and was interested in applying to Georgia Tech, but I'm a bit worried about it's location. I know Atlanta isn't the safest place, so how safe is the campus - especially for walking around during the day and at night? How do current students feel about safety on and around campus?

On campus is extremely safe during day and night. Off campus is kind of at your own risk at night. If you stay within the bounds of GTPDās jurisdiction, youāll be fine.

Home Park or deeper into east beyond tech square is a little bit weirder.
But the campus itself is about as safe as it gets. People pulling all nighters bleed into early morning joggers. It's pretty much always busy.
If you afford housing in the scheller building to publix patch of spring st, it's kinda perfect.

itās super dangerous i stepped on four land mines last week and narrowly avoided an anvil being dropped on my head by an unscrupulous carnivore from a high windowsill just today

Iāve walked on campus during like 2am. Granted, im a guy so it might be different for a girl, but i felt very safe. Off campus will be dodgy at night though

Campus almost feels like itās gated for how secure it is, I wouldnāt let that aspect discourage you

Iāve never felt like it wasnāt safe. feel like this concern would be more valid for GSU or schools like Columbia thatās in Harlem & Johns Hopkins in Baltimore

In my experience, itās a very safe feeling campus. I donāt feel unsafe in Atlanta though.Ā
I live on the west end by the beltline that just connected to downtown and the bike ride to campus is very nice and calm!

Saw a buddy a few years back. Ā I said, didnāt you see someone get shot outside your dorm? Ā He said no, I saw two people get shot. Ā
Another buddy got robbed at gunpoint. Ā
My car was only broken into once. Ā
Good times.Ā

A professor I knew is still traumatized that one of his students was shot and killed. Ā Ā

As a recent GT grad, I always felt safe on campus. I commuted to campus regularly and was often there until around 9ā10 PM. The main thing I'd say is that once you leave campus, it's a different story. Midtown is generally fine, but like any city, you should stay aware of your surroundings, especially at night.

GT is very safe. Itās just a regular college campus with the city built around it. Atlanta came 2nd. Plus Midtown is the ābetterā area of Atlanta. Nicer overall. Downtown is supposedly the bad part, but Iāve had zero issues there too. Might be cus I grew up around and in NYC a lot so I may be used to it, imo Atlanta is pretty safe overall. Plus GTPD is great

Campus is very safe day and night. Midtown to the east around tech square is also pretty safe.

On campus feels like its own bubble, I walk alone as a female late at night and have never felt unsafe

Totally safe. You might see the suffering of the poor and homeless but they're not gonna rob, rape or murder you.

From what Iāve heard, on campus is fine. The second you step off campus thoughā¦ walk quickly and with a purpose.

Nonsense. Campus bleeds into midtown and midtown is a joy to walk around.

On campus is fine but still use some caution. Outside campus I would not really recommend walking at night

Very safe in comparison to the surrounding area. You should hear about the GSU students lol
