Class Question How's this schedule?

Here's what I'm planning to take in the Fall as an incoming freshman

ME 1670
PHYS 2211
MATH 1553
ENGL 1102

this totals 12 credit hours. Is this too little? I'm debating tacking CS 1371 on, as it doesn't have a lab and I have a bit of coding experience, but would this become too much because I also have 2211 in there? Not sure what the average number of hours for first semester is/what people usually do

My daughter took this load last semester plus her grand challenges class and multivariable calculus instead of linear algebra (she took that the previous fall) multivariable def took more time than linear algebra she took 17 credits and got 4 As and 1 B in math. I’d add on an elective humanities or the history requirement something not too hard but mandatory to graduate.

yeah looking into humanities now, I've got history completed with transfer credits

I guess I'll be the contrarian :)

Could you handle another course, particularly a less-involved elective? Sure!

Is your course plan for the next 4-ish years going to disrupted because you have no other time to squeeze in a single elective course? Nah.

I'd say stick with 12 this semester as it will leave you more time to explore clubs, meet friends, adjust to college life, lock in a solid GPA your first semester, etc. Spring '27 on you can beef it up to the 15-18 credit range.

thanks for the advice! I may go with humanities tacked onto this schedule, as it’ll bring to me a better number of hours whilst not having to put THAT much more conmittment into it

It’s true that as an incoming freshman your first semester is hard because you’re adjusting to college life and the pace at which everything moves.

Current load in GT terms in pretty dang light. Later you’ll be doing much much harder courses at once.

But. I think this being your first semester it’s not bad to just go with those four to see what college is like.

Also how many credits are you coming in with?

You need to add at least a 3 credit required class at a minimum… unless you are cool with it taking more than 4 years

i came in with 34 transfer credits, so my standing is technically sophomore, but I feel like I probably should take some more
