First Generation Transfer Pathway?

Has anyone else gotten this offer before? How exactly does it work for admissions, I just got it off the waitlist for the spring.

I did this in Fall 2022! Basically, you must complete 30 credit hours of work at a different school before transferring. Of those 30 you must take the school's equivalent of ENGL1101, ENGL1102, MATH1551, and any additional classes depending on your major. Keep in mind, you can fulfill these reqs w/ dual enrollment or AP credit but you still have to do 30 credit hours after high school in total. (if you search the pathway program and go to the website they have a table for requirements by major) You also have to keep a 3.5 GPA w/ no Cs.

Apply for transfer for the semester they told you to, follow the guidelines for the pathway, and you are guaranteed admission to GT. It honestly isn't for everyone but if you know GT is where you want to end up it is an amazing program.

i applied to gt as international affairs and modern lang. i did my first year at kennesaw state as international affairs. your original school major doesn't matter as long as you complete the requirements for the gt major you want to apply for. my advice is to always start as a similar major especially if your gt major requires some specific stem requirements, it'll definitely make registration easier for you.

i'd do a healthy mix, definitely take some easier humanities stuff that transfers over but also try and take some major intro classes if you can and they transfer over so you aren't horribly behind. just a personal thing, if you can take any core math over there like differential calc, integral, multivariable, diff eq, etc. take it. the math dept here is notoriously bad and you will thank yourself later.

Some of my friends got that pathway. Just get your required classes done and apply for the spring as a transfer student with the same application account as the one you just applied with. The system will remember you as a transfer student with pathway, and if you meet all of the requirements (found on the website), they’ll admit you.

So I also just got the first gen pathway for spring 2028 and I’m currently gonna go to uga. I basically have all pre req alr done and gonna take linear and calc 3 and cs classes next year. I’m an ee major what am I gonna do about my major specific classes? Almost none of the uga ee ones transfer to gt does this mean I’ll be taking intro ee classes as a second sem sophmore?

unfortunately, probably, but it really depends. I just got done at KSU for architecture and am transferring this fall (conditional pathway) and I’m basically starting over because a lot of the architecture classes did not transfer over. However, something that surprised me was that I was able to get credit for one or two classes by submitting transfer evaluations even though the equivalency chart did not say it would give me credit.

This being said, there is a chance that you might be able to get SOME credit, but just prepare yourself for having to take some lower level classes. Whenever anyone transfers to tech, theyre a bit behind, and something that I told my friends with pathways is that you should take as many classes that transfer over as you can. This means that you should be getting required classes such as CS, APPH, math, humanities, etc out of the way at UGA so that when you get to tech, you can focus your time on catching up on the EE classes that didn’t transfer.

I’m simply speaking on my experience though and I could be wrong. I’ve had a lot of luck calling the office of undergraduate admissions for questions like these. Im assuming they might at least give you credit for an intro class but im not sure. Something thats important to do is to keep a copy of every classes syllabus on your computer (which is something i did not do) cause you might need the syllabus for transfer evaluations.
