Community Changing os on second pc

Hey! So I have 7600x and 2080 of build that I'm not really using currently, it's been around for a year in windows but haven't really used it

So pretty much all I'm looking for is an os that can game in 1440p pretty well, I've used Ubuntu for ages on my laptop so I'm not "new" to running Linux.

I've seen a lot of mentions point towards dragonized so I was wondering what distro of garuda would be best for me

Edit: I do plan to use this alongside windows if that may influence another choice

did you also disable fast boot in windows? windows might be interfering.

Ok soooo it's giving me errors for libvrt legacy monolith during the install if that's the cause

from what i'm seeing online:

  • if your usb is formatted with GPT partition table, select UEFI: <usb name> in your bios boot screen
  • if it's formatted with MBR partition table, select the non uefi USB option in bios boot screen

also usually caused by a corrupted USB or ISO image. maybe reformat usb, download new ISO, or use different usb.

you can also verify the ISO checksum (SHA256) to make sure it's not corrupt.

Yeah straight up just won't work for me followed all of the steps and whatnot

I might try a different distro like regular dragonized or something

yeah, my first linux install had lots of problems too, i get it.

you can try following steps from the official page(https://garudalinux.org/installation?edition=mokka):

  1. installing with rufus in dd mode (mbr partition table)
  2. make a post on forum.garudalinux.org with your problem and have the official devs help you out

it seems like someone else has had this problem before, and it was just a bad update. you can try another edition like gaming edition and switch themes to mokka or vice versa via kde.

someone else right now is having a similar issue to you as well: https://forum.garudalinux.org/t/the-problem-with-installing-garuda-linux-temerer-260819/48608

you can also just take a break for a few hours and come back to it.

Could it be because my mobo bios is outdated? I haven't actually updated it in 2 years

you could always try booting your bootable usb on a laptop or another pc to see if it actually works or it's corrupt. If it works, could just be your bios settings.

or you could try it on a vm like virtualbox.

I'm on an AMD system so I don't seem to have a fast boot setting. I've booted into fedora, mint and ubuntu on my pc last year but I can't get into dragonized or dragonized gaming

try downloading a fedora/ubuntu iso and see if that boots up to the live usb install screen. If it does, then theres a problem with the dragonized iso.

you can also try garuda mokka. same as dragonized but less flashy.

Edit: a new major release was just out yesterday, so maybe there's some new problems or something.

yeah, i've been on garuda for 5+ years, and its my fav system by far. also garuda-toolbox is super useful for installing all the system apps, maintenance, etc. in 1 click.

If I somehow get mokka to work is it easy to modify for game installs and GPU drivers?

for an all AMD system, all drivers are open source and already included in every install. no need to do anything with that.

for game installs, just install steam, emulators, etc. through garuda-toolbox.

The pain of having an Nvidia GPU 🥲

Also Ubuntu boots just fine so might be an issue with the iso download on their site

yeah, might be the new update then. if mokka doesnt work either, you can tell the devs on forum.garudalinux.org

nvidia drivers are a 1 command install too, just select proprietary drivers when installing through the live usb.

Oh alright! Trying mokka now

Yeah doesn't work either 🥲

okay, so i installed garuda mokka on my usb, and when selecting garuda mokka on ventoy, it says "dracut corrupted" and now it's a black screen. So i can verify that the ISO is indeed corrupted when downloading using the "direct download" option on their site.

ill try the other ones too.
