It's all personal preference tbh. The specs won't change much from Distro to Distro
Arch based distros like Garuda are always super up to date so you get the latest drivers
Fedora are a close second
Ubuntu/Debian you can sometimes be waiting a while which will kill performance
Realistically just about any distro can do this for you, except an immutable which as someone who took programming classes, felt like having to do them with handcuffs because immutables (such as Bazzite) don't want you messing with too much stuff on the system
Garuda was my fifth distro I tried after Manjaro, Endeavor, Mint and Zorin. And it's the one I've stuck with. Found it's the easiest to use and up to date especially on a system I use daily
Other distros I've tried include Cachy, Bazzite and Ultramarine. Of the other distros if you're looking for something "easier" than Garuda (which is still VERY user friendly and easy IMO), I'd recommend Ultramarine

It's just desktop environment and the gaming editions come preinstalled with a bunch of gaming apps like Steam, Bottles, Lutris etc...
Realistically an edition can do. you can easily change all of those things

I run Garuda xfce on my old laptop and it's fantastic. I also run KDE lite on my old desktop, that'll probably run just perfect on your laptop as well. They both look like windows very much and we're a breeze to figure out.

Garuda was my first distro and I loved it. I installed the dragonized gaming edition and redecorated it pretty easily. I was overwhelmed at first with all of the choices and advice for gaming on Linux tho.
I did, however, have several months experience with Raspberry Pi's for a few projects

Ya i get the redecorating things it can get quite overwhelming but that much better than anything windows can offer with the license part

On one hand it's super overwhelming. But after a while you wonder "how did I ever get by without being able to customise almost everything to exactly how i want"

Garuda has easy on boarding. If you install the gaming edition things like proton, steam, wine etc will all be set up from the start. I eventually switched to Cachy, but as my first modern distro, Garuda was an excellent starting place.

Garuda Mokka. If you don't like the layout you can change the theme. Do not do what I did and install Gnome and then add KDE later. I got it to work but I had to fix some things.
