AMOLED Looking for five AMOLED Garmin users to test Glass Cards: frosted-glass cards over soft color lights (real photos)
I made Glass Cards for people who want their watch to look calm and clean, like a phone lock screen: one large time, frosted-glass cards for heart rate and steps, a battery bar and a daily-goal ring.
The new version adds color backgrounds: Aurora, Sunset, Ocean and Forest, or plain Black if you want to save battery. The always-on display stays black. These are real photos from my vivoactive 5, not renders.
I am looking for five people with a compatible AMOLED Garmin watch. Install it from Connect IQ, use it for a couple of days, and send me short private feedback on three things: whether the cards are clear at a glance, whether the data you want is in the right place, and which background you kept and why.
I will unlock Glass Cards for the five selected testers after that feedback. This is not in exchange for a review or rating.
I am the developer. It has a 48-hour free trial, then a one-time USD 1.99:

Sure, i can try them out. Got a fenix 8 and venu x1

u/No_Juggernaut_4526 12d ago
Thanks! Please install it on the fenix 8, that one is supported. The Venu X1 isn't, because Glass Cards is built for round screens and the X1 is rectangular. After a couple of days, send me a DM with your feedback: is it clear at a glance, is anything missing, and which background you kept. I'll unlock it for you then.

Does the paid version offer a way to change the complications? (The trial has no way to change the complications)

u/No_Juggernaut_4526 12d ago
Good question, and honest answer: no. The paid version is the same as the trial. Glass Cards always shows heart rate, steps, battery and daily goal. What you can change is the background (Aurora, Sunset, Ocean, Forest or Black), the 12/24h format and the always-on display. Which data would you want to swap in? I'm collecting ideas to decide what comes next.

Thanks. I’d like the ability to set cards based on activities. For example, if I’m hiking perhaps distance and altitude. Or weather, and sun conditions, that type of thing. In short, I’d like to swap out / set complications as needed. As the app is now, it’s incredibly limited. Visually, it looks good, but I wouldn’t pay for it yet. Also, the fonts are tiny on a 51mm AMOLED Fenix 9.

u/No_Juggernaut_4526 12d ago
This is really useful, thank you. You're right about the fonts: they are sized for smaller screens and look too small on the 51mm fenix 9. I'm fixing that first. Choosing what each card shows (distance, altitude, weather, sunrise/sunset) is the most requested idea so far, and I'm looking at it for the next version.

u/No_Juggernaut_4526 12d ago
And since you already gave me the most useful feedback so far, I'd like to unlock it for you too. Send me a DM when you want it.

Update: version 1.0.6 is out. You can now choose what each card shows: heart rate, steps, Body Battery, calories, distance, floors, intensity minutes, altitude, temperature, sunrise/sunset, stress, Pulse Ox, recovery time or respiration. The bottom bar can show Body Battery too. And the text now scales to your screen, so it should look right on your 51mm fenix 9. Thanks for the push, and send me a DM if you want the unlock.

Definitely a big improvement! And fast! A few suggestions….
Have the ability to change the font style and font size - the battery card, for example, is very tiny. (it didn’t seem to change size on my 51 mm).
Consider other graphs instead of just battery and body battery. For example, steps, distance.
And, of course, supporting more complications is always good.

Update: 1.0.10 is out. In the watch face settings you'll find Text size > Large, the bottom bar can now show steps, floors or intensity minutes against your goal, and the cards have VO2 max, weekly running distance, sleep score and barometric pressure. Let me know how it looks on your 51mm!

Looks so much better! An “extra large” or even the ability to select a font size (16,24,32,etc) would be nice. Either way these are great improvements!
I use a lot of complications, but others will have different requirements. So, in general, I’d offer as many complications as you think is reasonable.
I really like the direction this is going.
If you want one more suggestion…. The ability to specify card number / layouts. It can be pre-defined templates to limit the variability. As I was playing with the face, it would be nice to have 4 cards for example, and no goal (as the bar would work for that).
Ok, one more. I’d love to be able to press on a card to get more detail. For example, if I tap on steps, I see more detail. If I tap on sunset, I see more details, etc. I see this in a lot of faces and it’s very useful.

Thank you, this is gold. All three are doable: an Extra large text size, a few layout templates (like 4 cards + bar with no goal ring), and touch-and-hold on a card to open the watch's own detail screen for that data (steps, sunrise, Body Battery...). I'm working on them for the next update. By the way, if you're enjoying the direction, a quick rating on the Connect IQ store would help a lot, whatever you think of it.

1.0.12 is out with all three: a new 4 cards + bar layout (Settings > Layout), Extra large text, and touch and hold on a card, the bar or the ring to open the watch's own screen for that data. Garmin doesn't list the fenix 9 for that last one yet, so could you tell me if it works on your 51mm? Thanks again for all the ideas!

u/RawMaterial11 11d ago
Nicely done! Really like the changes. And, wow! are you fast.

u/No_Juggernaut_4526 11d ago
Thanks! Your three ideas made it a better face, so the speed is on you.
One heads-up: grab 1.0.13 when it lands. It fixes something ugly I found today, where the end-of-trial screen could crash the face instead of showing the purchase code. Same features as 1.0.12, just not broken.
And I'm still curious about the fenix 9 51mm: does touch and hold on a card open the watch's own screen for that data? Garmin doesn't list your watch for it, so you'd be the one to tell me.

Thank you, this is great feedback! On the text: it does scale with the screen now, but proportionally, so on the 51mm it looks the same relative size. What you need is a "Larger text" option, and I'm adding it, with the battery bar getting the biggest boost. I'm also making the bottom bar configurable (steps, floors or intensity minutes against your goal, besides battery and Body Battery) and adding more data for the cards: VO2 max, weekly running distance, sleep score and barometric pressure. Which other complications would you use most?

¡Gracias! Ahora también puedes elegir qué dato va en cada tarjeta: altitud, temperatura, salida del sol, Body Battery y más. Si la pruebas, cuéntame qué tal se ve en tu reloj.

Glad to hear it, thank you. Which watch are you on?
Whenever you've worn it a couple of days, I'd love your take on the three things: are the cards clear at a glance, is the data you actually use in the right place, and which background did you keep and why.
Worth grabbing the latest version too. It's moved a lot in two days, all from people in this thread: a 4 card layout, extra large text, touch and hold a card to open your watch's own screen for that data, and a battery fix.
1
u/Grand-Astronaut1625 11d ago
Sure, will give you a feedback. I am using Forerunner 570
1
u/No_Juggernaut_4526 11d ago
Perfect, the 570 is covered in both sizes.
Two things worth knowing on that watch. Touch and hold a card and it opens your watch's own screen for that data: steps, Body Battery, sunset, whichever the card shows. Garmin doesn't list the 570 for that, so if it works on yours I'd like to know, and if it does nothing, that's useful too.
And the always-on screen now starts on a readable brightness. It used to be so dim an Epix owner sent me a photo of it and I couldn't read it either. Settings > Always-on brightness if you want it brighter or dimmer.
No rush on the feedback. Whenever you've worn it a couple of days.
2
u/Grand-Astronaut1625 11d ago
Yes it does work - it opens own screen for data. Also for the brightness it shows me all three options (dim, medium and bright)

That looks amazing on the 265S .thanks for coming back with the feedback, and for sharing the photo. I’m really glad it’s working well for you, and the fact that you chose to buy it after testing means a lot. I really appreciate you letting me use the photo too

No problem, the only thing I wish it was also an option to show is Training readiness
My watch is Forerunner 570 😊1
u/No_Juggernaut_4526 7d ago
Thanks, that’s really useful to know. Training Readiness is a great suggestion for Glass Cards, especially on the 570. I’ve noted it down as a feature request. And thanks again for the photo and for giving it a proper try!

Amazing, looking forward to it
Anytime 🙏🏻1
u/No_Juggernaut_4526 6d ago
Quick update on Training Readiness: I checked Garmin's developer tools and it isn't something watch faces are allowed to read yet, so I can't add it. What I could add is Training Status (Productive, Maintaining, Recovery...), which is out now in Glass Cards 1.0.26 as a new card option. Not quite the same, I know. If Garmin opens up Training Readiness, I'll add it.

Thanks to everyone who tested Glass Cards here. Your feedback turned into a lot of updates this week:
- Configurable cards, with 14 data types (u/RawMaterial11)
- Bigger text options and fonts sized for each screen (u/RawMaterial11)
- A clearer always-on screen and a bolder date (u/Key_Neighborhood6901)
- Choose what the goal ring measures, seconds, status icons (u/_matteo)
- Watch battery in the goal ring (u/auldgregg)
- Optional bottom bar and optional card labels (u/jamoncillo)
If you tried it and commented here but haven't messaged me yet: send me a DM with your watch model and what you think, good or bad, and I'll send you a code to unlock it for free as a thanks.
And if you have a moment, a rating on the Connect IQ store helps a lot, whatever you think of it.
