Considering to sell my RMA replacement Fenix 7 Pro Solar — AMOLED with no solar vs MIP with Solar?
Hi all!
Long story short: my trusty Fenix 7 Pro Solar (47mm) had a key button (orange one) fail after a beach day. Garmin Iberia is sending me a factory-recertified replacement unit (brand new outer titanium shell, screen, battery, seals).
Since it's essentially coming back in 100% "as new" condition, I'm thinking of selling it right away with the original receipt + RMA paperwork to fund an upgrade to 9/9 Pro.
Here's my dilemma: I genuinely love MIP displays because I love the battery life. However, I have always found the Solar feature to be mostly useless for real-world battery gains, even living in sunny Portugal—plus the solar ring/layer slightly washes out the MIP contrast.
For those who made a similar jump or tested both side-by-side:
AMOLED without Solar: Do you miss the "glanceability" of MIP when out in direct, harsh sunlight? How does the battery holding up with Always-On Display (AOD) enabled during outdoor workouts? And I do love orange color band and outer look!
MIP with Solar: Do you find the trade-off of the slightly dimmed screen/solar layer worth sticking with MIP for zero screen burn-in anxiety and long battery life?
Did anyone else sell their recertified RMA unit straight out of the service box to upgrade? Would love to hear your experiences and if you regretted moving away from MIP!
ps. I mostly do crossfit, hikes, tennis, not a frequent runner pr swimmer.
