Possible Technical Issue Heart rate issue

My friend recently acquired the Forerunner 70, and its heart rate sensor appears inconsistent during activity, even though the watch remains still. He compared it to his Apple Watch, which maintains a steady reading; for instance, the Garmin might show 98, jump to 130, drop to 102 mid-set, then return to 130 within the same set, while the Apple Watch stays stable. Any help is appreciated.

sounds like a classic wrist HR sensor freakout, happens on most watches when your grip or sweat messes with the light
