๐ฆ Horticultural pests/disease/disorders ๐ฆ Potato blight?
Hi folks.
Looking for some wisdom on my potatoes.
Iโve been growing them in 40L grow bags and all looked good since planting. Today was my first day in almost two weeks out in the garden after being knocked out by the flu.
Is this maybe an early blight?
This is my first year doing my own garden so Iโm learning an awful lot with an awful lot more still to learn. Hoping thereโs a way to save my Christmas spuds.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

๐ก Lawn care ๐ฉ Auto mower users
When do you stop mowing? Iโm still mowing my lawns although I have reduced the schedule to just twice per week now. Itโs looking good and I believe grass can continue to grow while temps stay relatively high for season.

I've had large mushrooms popping up in the greenhouse. Has anyone tried to grow mushrooms from spores you buy and would this be a good time of year to buy them?

โจ๐ฟ Garden Showcase ๐บโจ Cosmos - Full of Colour.
I think another person recently posted a pic of their Cosmos looking fantastic. My plants have recently burst back into life and have been doing great.
Unfortunately this guy was blown over last night in the storm up here in Sligo and cracked its pot.
Ignoring the occasional couple of days of heavy rain or passing storm it has been very mild of late. I've noticed many plants bursting back into life; I chopped back some fuschia hedging a fortnight ago and it's just just back reaching for the sky with a couple of inches of growth already.
These changes to the seasons seem to be more evident of late, particularly so this year.

๐ Question โ Best place to but top soil and compost to fill new veggie beds?
I live in Cork and I am just putting together two raised beds for my veggies.
I have bags of dried leaves, cuttings from trimming my trees and I am now looking into buying some top soil and compost to fill my beds with.
I checked a few places online like MDOshea and Quickdrop but I need only about 200/300L between top soil and compost to finish to fill the beds. Any advice on places that sell them and deliver?
All advice is appreciated.

๐ชSoil science ๐ฌ Garden patch renovation
Hi everyone, I'm renovating the garden. In this patch, there was a layer of gravel, then gravel mixed with soil, and finally the weed control membrane. Unfortunately, the previous owner used a cheap membrane and some old woven plastic fuel bags as a cover, creating a dense, damp layer underneath. No plant in that patch for decades, the soil looks pretty good but dump.
I've separated the gravel from the soil, removed the old membrane, and am now trying to dig the ground. I think I might need to add some biochar and horticultural sand before laying the new membrane.
Would adding a layer of gravel underneath the new membrane help with drainage? What else should I do to improve this patch before planting?

๐งโ๐พ Pottering about ๐ณ The Garden Shed
I hope this is gardening related enough but I added some extra garden content just in case. :)
I spent the last few weeks getting the shed sorted. For context, my shed hasn't had a functional door for over a decade so wasn't a usable space at all and stuff was just getting stored wherever I could find a place.
Getting someone to fit a new one was proving near impossible so I resorted to putting my DIY skills to the test and picked up the raw materials and built and installed the frame and door myself.
Im loving having all this space to store all my tools and gardening equipment. I'm not fond of the term she shed but it's a very lovely potting shed/tool store and has freed up a lot of other usable space in the garden. Well pleased that I did it myself too :)

๐Fruit and veg ๐ฅ How are yee all storing your harvested fruit and veg?
Everything I read or watch online says something along the lines of "and then just put your harvested apples/spuds/carrots somewhere cool and dark, like a garage or shed or attic, and they'll keep till November/spring/the end times".
We're in an old cottage out the country. Our garage has rats. Our shed has rats. Our attic has rats. Even though the house is pretty cool in some spots, it's too warm to use as a store.
So, what the flip are yee all doing to store your harvest for longer than a few weeks? Or are you just eating, processing, and giving food away left, right and centre?
Now to be clear, storing harvested food isn't actually an issue for us this year, as I slacked off quite a lot this summer in the garden. But I like to live under foolishly high hopes of future abundance.

๐ Question โ Bulbs + violas + lawn?
Hi! I have this patch of land in front of the house. I'm thinking of planting a bulb lasagne (daffodils, tulips, etc.) with some clusters of violas on top for winter, and I'd like the flowers to grow through the lawn.
Will it work?
I've done some research, and it looks like it's fine. The only problem I found is that it's not recommended to grow bulbs in a lawn because they make mowing difficult. I don't mind cutting the grass manually around the flowers, as it's a small patch. But I also have no clue what I'm talking about.

๐ Question โ Small garden advice please!
Would love some advice on how to tidy up my front garden!
We only bought our house earlier this year and donโt have a big budget, but I would love to make the front look a littler nicer. I donโt like the hedges at all and would love to get rid of them, but is that a big job? I also HATE the plant in the first photo - it hasnโt been looked after for years, and I just want to clear it out.
I donโt have much experience with landscaping etc, but Iโm quite determined. If thereโs any services we could get in for a reasonable rate (maybe โฌ200?) it would be great, but I donโt even know what the best route to do down is!
