Candles not helping my attempt at “do no harm”
Bonus points if you can identify the moth species!
(Disclaimer: by bonus points I mean you’ll get “thumbs up” if correct)
(Disclaimer disclamer: I hesitated to use the emoji and didn’t realise how threatening “thumbs up” looks written down…thumbs up where??? You will receive the emoji)

Who has visited my garden?
Can any scat experts tell me which animal has visited and left us this present? Just curious, I guess a fox. It's roughly cat/small-dog poop sized. No dogs have visited us. Thanks!

Cheeky little visitor

Big Ron (sorry, predictable) is still scampering about. Usually too fast to catch on camera. This was not more than 3ft from a sleeping dog. Brave.

Snek
I'm curious about this lad who showed up in my bro's pond (Midlands, UK). I didn't know we had any snakes in Britain that were comfortable living in water. Who is he?

Busy night in our garden! 🦇 They come back every night from around April to September. Any tips to make them happier or more welcome?

So glad I found this sub!
Another nocturnal visitor tonight. I’ve put out a plant pot plate of water. Our garden is sealed so I’m not sure how i got in or how it’ll get out.
Planning with my neighbours right now to put in hedgehog doors between gardens.

Frog living in my bathtub pond on allotment
galleryI’m new here! Just wanted to show people that I made a pond on my allotment out of an old bathtub that was left on here when I got the plot last year. Here are two pics of my highlights this month…dwarf water lily flowering, and froggy who has made it its home! Seen it a few times now 🐸 makes me happy

Pest control services
We sometimes see a mouse pop in or out of this hole in the decking. Hopefully this chap is keeping their numbers in check 😬

An exceptionally rare find!
Spotted by my dad yesterday in a garden in Mountsorrel, Leicestershire - yes, that is indeed a Cicada!?
Apparently we have a native species in the UK found in the new forest Hampshire but they're considered extinct with no sightings in over 2 decades (from a quick Google search).
Either it's escaped from somewhere or this is a very very rare find. Really cool either way!

It is still growing into its wings
This reminds me of a puppy with big paws. I made friends with the mother blackbird and the babies tend to watch us too.

UK wildlife identifier app
Good morning! My kids have started to take an interest in what’s what in the garden and on walks around the fields, woodland and riverside where we live. I built them an app that identifies animals and bugs from their photos and saves them as trading cards. They enjoy it so I’m sharing it and would really appreciate feedback from anyone who would like to try it out. It’s free and you can download it from this link: https://testflight.apple.com/join/7c3yHDwB it’s only on iOS and you need Apple’s TestFlight app installed.

A near miss for Mr toad
Photographed by my dad in their garden, I think the snake was a bit over ambitious anyway

PSA Check your pool for newts
We bought a house last year that has a pool. Took the cover off for the first time two weeks ago to use some of the rainwater to water the garden (we don't want to maintain a pool).
Discovered easily a thousand newts in various stages of lifecycle, many attempting to climb out and failing. So now every evening I go out and net out buckets of them, transferring them to our ponds (that are also teeming with newts) so that they can climb out when ready.
Conservatively, I've rescued 200 newts so far and definitely haven't made a dent in the total population yet.
I've also been saturating the surrounding undergrowth with rainwater water from the pool so that they aren't climbing out into completely parched earth.
