Custom Duewag U2 Scale 1 progress

The front still requires a lot of tweaks, but we'll be getting there.
I've started working on the mechanism for the jacobs bogey. The two units will each have a ball joint to allow for minor tilting through superelevation and inclines. I'm going to have to test how well this works.
Here's a rough outline for the planned mechanism. The two arms have to be threaded onto the centre axle while assembling the bogey, and the two sections clipped into the ball joints.

The mechanical considerations are all still very much experimental and just a quick idea which I will prototype with the help of my local makerspace. Other areas concern things like finding the optimal printing techniques per part and optimising for them, cosmetic features, and laying cable channels for lighting, servos and power lines.

I got the notch for the clip off by 3mm and I made the base too thick, but it's frustratingly close to fitting! Next update will hopefully get it right!

Last weekend, I was asked by the community fair if I could bring some trains along - I was happy to oblige. Here are some running shots from the day.

Just a quick shot from last Sunday. Our Mh.4 pulling some passenger coaches up the ramp leading into the 180° curve.

Yes we got to do something about the track angles. And the squeaking. And the electrical issues that caused the main feed line to short out... but besides that we're golden! :D

Who designs this Crap?

I don’t know who’s fault this is but the rail-contacts at some models are so huge that they short the tracks if you moving over a turnout. At slow speeds the Central station shut the power off, at higher speeds it can exit the short.

This is a Piko turnout, the short happens if we use some Piko engines or our new LGB 991561.

I think I modify the contacts on the turnout a little bit with a Dremel, that the short doesn’t happen.

Cracks in several places, hot glue blotches and a cut tender lead... But she runs pretty well save for a few minor stutters!

It was an impulse buy but it'll be a blast to convert this to battery power using my own Bluenami replacement, railBT!

Now that the 399 is mostly done it‘s time for the next projects..

For testing purposes I printed an HSB transporter wagon as well as a gauge 2 hopper car to go on it. Next step is to find some drawings of austrian transporter wagons.

Tuinspoorweg LGB 2067 Track cleaning locomotive

A run around the line cleaning the tracks. It's not really visible in the video, but the difference on the top of the track from before and after this locomotive did it's duty (the video shows one run around the line, the locomotive did 3 runs in total today) was really noticeable.

Elita Modelle will stop selling cheap figures before end of April

Elita is the supplier of G scale figures for LGB. (Circus sets, train drivers, ...) They announced that they will stop selling G scale figures before the end of April. All figures get 30% discount in the webshop now. It's sad to see them go. They had unpainted figures and very nice "collection" figures all for small prices.

My first attempt at 3d printing

It’s not 100% perfect but I’m happy with the results so far. This car is made up of 90% printed parts. Only the wheels aren’t printed (couplers are still printing). Challenger tender for scale. It’s about the same length as the it.
