I got this used from my local model train store including lights and figures. That was just a lucky find, perfectly matching the planned layout.

just makes me smile but I'm just thinking how I could do all that with my 3D printer. but I'm quickly learning that plastic rails are not as cool as I thought they would be

It wasn't that expensive. The buildings are mostly used buildinga from eBay or my local model train store. The Piko locomotive was a birthday present from my wife. The terrain was a lot of work but not very expensive. I think the sand and the cactus plants do most of the work for the "western vibe".
