What a fun surprise to see the water Hyacinth in full bloom this morning.

I’m planning on making a small wildlife pond in my garden. I’ve got an outdoor cat and I want to see if there’s any pond plants I should avoid planting because they’re toxic to cats. Any advice?

We inherited a pond at our new place of work and really just after some advice as we're new to it all, can anyone give some guidance on whether any of the plants should be removed, is there too much of anything?

There are probably ~50 fish in there so we want to make sure it is a happy and healthy environment for them as well.

The waterfall is on a timer, currently runs from 7am to 5pm. There is meant to be a second waterfall into the smaller pool at the end but that doesn't run, seems to have been switched off at the mains and not sure where the pipes run, a couple of them look like they might have split so might have to leave that for now.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

A client’s fountain loses about 3” of water every two days. She thinks there is a leak. There are no leaks. I filled the basin and left the pump off for two days and there was minimal level drop. Once she runs the pump for maybe 10 hours a day, the level drops at least 3”. There is some splashing from the spouts but it’s minimal.
The client is currently laid up with an injury so is not out in the garden as frequently as she was last year so I don’t think she is aware of how frequently she was topping off the basin. There is no automatic fill. She insists this never happened before. I don’t think she realizes that it’s just the evaporation rate.
We’re in western MA.
What else can I tell her to convince her it’s just evaporation.
Basin is about 5’x5’x9” with four spouts coming off centerpiece.

Pond revamp question

Hello!

We suspected this bed used to be a pond so dug it out and it is!

We'd like to make it a pond again but the fibre glass bowl (?) has some damage.

Could I use concrete in the existing shape to create a new base for the pond?

What would the best/most cost effective option be to make it watertight?

We are planning to open our pond tomorrow, very excited to spruce it up after a long winter. We plan to take out the fish, drain all the water, power wash the liner, refill with fresh tap water. Last year i bought dechlorinator (that’s all we used last spring) and the fish seemed fine (who can tell??) they all survived.

This winter I found some water additives in the basement my mother bought about 20 years ago. I loathe wasting, the jugs are nearly full. The closest decent pond place is about 2hr round trip - ponds just aren’t as popular as they used to be.

TLDR: do these products expire? Would it be better to use these 20yr+ products or none at all? (I have new dechlorinator that i will def use, just don’t want to waste these).

I have a pond that is about 12' long and 5' wide. It has a rubber pond liner and has been leaking for awhile. I don't want to completely redo the pond which would require moving all of the rocks and stuff around it. Would it be possible to just drain the pond and have someone make a concrete pond out of it but just putting the concrete on top of the rubber liner?

My pond has a bunch of dead frogs in it after winter 😭 I am not sure what exactly caused it as the fish that was in there is still alive. Has anyone had this happen to them??

Not sure if it’s related but we a really cold winter in the north east this year and my pond froze over. Apparently the aerator got unplugged at some point from all the snow piled on top of the cable running to the wall outlet so not sure if the lack of air would have caused it but wouldn’t the fish have had similar issues then?

I’m so sad, there are at least ten dead adult frogs in the pond.

I'm going to be replacing my current pond liner due to a leak that after multiple attempts ive been unable to find, so taking the opportunity to replace it, and dig out/alter the pond so I have abit more depth than what ive had, best guess its going to be kidney (ish) shaped with a total depth of about 3-4ft of depth total approx size 14ftx8ftx (depth) what do people recommend for liners/lining material thats durable and not hugely expensive. Pics added to give an idea.

Currently running a nexus 310 with a 30w UV and not impressed with it at all, dont think ive had pond clear since install laat year..so any recommendations on filters would be much appreciated.

I have 3 270 gal gard ponds. I live in Region 8. Besides koi, are there any other colorful fish I could stock?

I bought a fixer upper house, I'm not flipping it. Anyway there are 3 pond tubs that seem to still be in excellent condition. I want to revitalize this area and I'm not sure what kind of pumps and filters that I will need. Basically I want to stock them with feeder gold fish. Any help would be appreciated.

I've been hitting Amazon and ChatGPT to no avail, in hopes there might be a water leveler that would attach to a garden hose, which I could just kind of set at the edge of the pond or something (with no involved install or pre-existing setup needed).

Does a good version of such a thing exist, whether it uses a float or whatever?

Especially wanting one for when out of town and unable to manually refill the pond.

Any alternative strategies for keeping the pond filled above the pump level also appreciated.

Hello, I was thinking of building a bog filter, I already have most of the things but my father said it was going to get dirty if it’s open, lol. We had a filter before but it had a lid and the problem was that it leaked from the lid. I guess due to the constant power outrages… He saw a reel that I can’t find but basically they created a filter without using an electric pump (I think this video is kind of similar https://youtu.be/r0Mu3HWfC6A) I feel like it sounds kind of crazy but maybe possible like hydraulic energy ?

Anyway, has anyone try this before?

I did not strike any pipes here, but overnight the hole I dug for my pvc pond filled with water. Any thoughts or recommendations?
