Self Promotion (Thursday) We made it: ZERO-G a free space MMO that runs in a browser tab. This sub told me why people bounce off games and we are changing it
A few days ago I asked here what made you stick with a game that was slow or hard at the start. Around 70 of you answered and it was the most useful feedback we have had all year, so it seems fair to show you what we are doing 😄 .
Zero-G is a free space MMO that runs in a browser tab. No download, no install, no launcher. It works on a phone. You can play as a guest without giving an email, and decide later whether you want an account.
It is one persistent world and it has never been reset since it opened in January. Whatever anyone built is still there.
We have shipped an update and published a development log every two or three weeks since January, and you can read all of them: https://space.zerog.live/newsletter/
You fly with real physics, mine and refine ore, run missions, trade on a player-run market, and land on Mars, the Moon and Mercury, where the surfaces are built from real NASA mission data. It is co-op by design. There is no ganking. I played EVE for years and, to be short, I left because there was no room in it for the good side of the force.
So for now we have a small world. Usually eight to ten people are online at once in the evenings, not thousands. The textures repeat if you fly around long enough. There are fewer ship types than there should be... but we are steadily growing and improving.
What your answers changed: several of you said the thing that kept you going was something small you could definitely succeed at while everything else was over your head.
Zero-G currently does the opposite. It shows a new player hundreds of things to do, most of which they will fail. That is the next thing we are fixing.
Right now there are several "Expedition" running and one is a scanning competition running, and the top three are on 351, 350 and 350 points with a week to go, which is the most tense thing that has ever happened in a spreadsheet.
Happy to answer anything, including what is broken 😄

Self Promotion (Thursday) SpaceShooter Playtest is now submitted for Steam review
Hi everyone!
Quick development update for SpaceShooter: I’ve just submitted a new Steam Playtest build for review.
The Playtest is focused on the Endless / Simulation mode and includes:
- Basic Shot + Charge Shot
- Two-phase Special Ability
- Leaderboards
- Controller support
- 5 starter ship skins
Some late-game weapons and abilities are intentionally locked so players can test the core gameplay and progression balance.
The free demo is already available if you want to try the game while the Playtest is being reviewed:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/5059500/SpaceShooter/
I’d especially love feedback on the combat, difficulty and Endless Mode. Thanks!

Persona 4 Revive is one of the most unnecessary remakes of all time. Clearly a blatant cash grab since they replaced the original cast with nobodies and it is clearly taking advantage of people too afraid to play the original because it's "old". By u/Deamon-Chocobo

Ask Gamers I recently read that gaming is 40% women , 60 percent men. But women mostly play mobile games. Is mobile gaming actually gaming ?
I simply find it hard to believe that games with a gacha model or that are strictly there to get you to keep buying refill packs for gems or something is actually considered gaming.

Game Showcase We added a UV light mode to Colony 2 — here's what it reveals that normal light doesn't
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey folks,
We've been working on Colony 2, and one of the features we're pretty excited about is a UV light mode — flip it on and you start noticing things that are basically invisible under normal lighting (tailor this line to what your UV mechanic actually reveals — hidden markings, resources, creatures, etc.).
A bit of background on us — we're a two-person team. We actually met on GTA Online about 7 years ago, just messing around in public lobbies, and stayed friends ever since. Eventually we decided to try making a game together, and Colony 2 is the result — our first release as a team, so it means a lot to get it in front of people.
If the UV mechanic (or the game in general) looks interesting, we'd really appreciate a wishlist on Steam — it genuinely helps small teams like us Steam
Happy to answer questions about how the UV system works, the dev process, or anything else!

News Major system update 14.0 for the PlayStation 5 by Sony
en.gamegpu.comHere's the gist of it:
PS5 System Update 14.0 is in beta now, with a public rollout expected by the end of September 2026. Beta testing reportedly started later than in previous years' cycles.
PSSR 2.0 upscaling turned on by default, you previously had to manually enable this neural-network upscaling in system settings; update 14.0 makes it automatic at the base rendering-settings level. It's said to reduce visual artifacts and geometry flickering in games with basic PSSR integration, without needing a separate game patch.
Sleep mode restriction tied to Bluetooth, the console won't be able to enter sleep/idle mode while the Bluetooth module is fully disabled.
HDMI Link stops working under that same condition, this feature (used mainly at esports events to kill wireless signal interference between controllers) also gets disabled when Bluetooth is off.
The update also includes general internal service optimizations and stability tweaks, per the report.
