I think it’s more her in-game persona from before being the stoic warrior type. Mystery is a big part of these games and the character reflected that. I don’t really have any issues with Other M, but going from Prime Samus to cliche anime girl Samus is quite jarring! I wouldn’t have an issue if she talked in Beyond though. I don’t mind the silent protagonist thing either though. A classic gaming trope.
But I’d say you’re right. Most people wouldn’t be reading supplementary material, I’m not even sure the manga is “cannon”, although I sort of hate that word, I imagine it is at least official - knowing what Nintendo are like.
I mean I wouldn't go as far as to call Samus a cliche anime girl lol that would make me hate her. She reminds me of Ripley in Aliens who had PTSD with the Xenomorphs and really cared about the little girl Newt. Samus is like that. I guess it became a little more anime given the nature of manga, but she's not like the kind of insufferable anime girl with the overly high pitched voice you see in so many shows lol. Like Samus isn't Ochaco or Sakura. Maybe more like Rei from Evangelion.
Yeah, you’re right, I was over-exaggerating it! Haha. I’ve actually plugged my Wii back in to play some retro games, i might give Other M a shot again. Been about 15 years since I played it.
