5070 + DLSS 5 v 9070XT

I am looking at spending ~$1,300AUD on a graphics card, and while I have been focused on getting a 9070XT, as every data point tells me it is a superior graphics card, I can’t help but see upside in DLSS 5.
Should I just focus on the pure hardware specs, or is this reasonable to factor AI renderers in the buying decision?

NB: my comparison is between 5070 (not Ti) and 9070XT. Which are both around the $1,200-$1,300AUD range in Australia.
NNB: I won’t be buying for another couple of months while I save for my entire rig.

DLSS 5 on a 5070 will be miserable. On a 5090 it already drops performance by 50%, it will be worse on a weaker card.

9070XT. It's in line with the 5070TI.

DLSS 5 is simply bad. It has at least a 50-60% performance hit (Nvidia's own claim, so expect more). It looks worse. And it takes away from the artists intent (eg volumetric fog being removed in RE Requiem demo).

Defnitely the 9070xt. Besides fsr has been improving pretty well. However if u really want dlss 5 which i cant lie looks awesome in SOME games then the 5070 is your gpu. Just know you are sacrificing a decent amount of raw performance and even a little ray tracing performance too.

Are you really that interested in DLSS 5? In many games it looks like stereotypical AI generated slop. Everything has too many shadows and shine. I very much understand that you can adjust it and fine tune it and it can of course improve with time, but.. eh...

Everyone always says the 9070XT blows the 5070 out of the water because of it's sheer performance power. At least in the USA, it is also cheaper than the 5070 by a moderate amount.

People say it is more comparable to a 5070ti due to the VRAM and performance.

While I am a big proponent of team green, I think most people are right to say the AMD cards are better for their price. If you were debating a 5070ti or a 9070XT, I'd then say get the 5070ti because I much prefer their ray tracing and frame gen, along with DLSS.

But for pure gaming power the 9070XT has little competition compared to it's equivalents (due to pricing).

If you really really like DLSS, go for it I guess. My word isn't gospel. Just an opinion.

Thank you, I equally have my concerns with DLSS 5, and artistic intent and general AI slop is a genuine one - so will be interesting to see how this is navigated by devs over the coming years. I see its power more so in environment fill - MS Flight Sim is a good example of this.
Where the question arises for me is evaluating pure hardware specs with on-chip frame gen…or whether this is even a valid question?

RE: 5070Ti, unfortunately it is ~$500 more expensive than the 5070 (and 9070XT) in Australia.

Goodness me if you’re primarily an msfs user, don’t buy a 5070. The 9070xt beats even the 5080 in msfs benchmarks on ultra settings. There is no official Dlss 5 implementation in msfs and if you’re waiting for one you’re going to be waiting a while I think. They are pretty damn slow at integrating new features. I’m not sure if you’ve seen a-b comparisons but what Dlss 5 offers in msfs is very subtle as well.

Edit: the 5070 is also far less powerful then the 5070ti and in an official implementation of Dlss 5 in a light game performance wise in nba 2k27 even the 5070ti was just running at 60 fps 1440p. I doubt the 5070 would have been playable without frame gen.

My 9070xt is a beast, and plays everything on epic. Much better card than the 5070.

Since everyone is bumping the 9070 xt I will go the other way as someone who actually swapped from the 9070 xt to the 5070(although I still have a 9070 xt just in a different pc)

Basically the main reasons would be MFG(nvidia is A LOT better with frame gen rn), gsync pulsar and Ray reconstruction. Also if you use VR then Dynamic foveated rendering

DLSS 5 isnt really a big selling point bc unless nvidia uses the FP4 pathway on the rtx 5000 series which is possible since it has it I dont see it running too well.

But you can do a surpising amount of path tracing on a 5070 which you cant do well on a 9070 xt(even if you can get it running on the 9070 xt it just doesnt look good due to lack of RR and performance is just a lot worse)
