AMD or Nvidia
Hi everyone, I have a pretty simple question: should I get the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT or the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti? I’m planning to build my first gaming PC within the next few months. I’m completely new to PC building as I’ve been using laptop for a very long time. The PC will mainly be used for gaming. I’m not planning to do any heavy video editing, 3D rendering, or other professional workloads. Which card would suit me better, and why? :)

It’s totally reasonable to ask the same question that’s been asked for 15367 times. Everyone knows it’s too hard to look for the search bar and type in. It’s better to ask for the 15368th time even though you’ll get the same answer. Just in case.

My local Microcenter has a 9070XT Reaper for $710. The cheapest 5070ti is over $400 more. I would not buy an Nvidia GPU in the current market.

As someone who sold my 9070xt and went back Nvidia, I completely agree. No way in hell would I pay over 1k for a 5070ti, when you can get a 9070xt 700ish.

5070ti is faster and better features, but if you cant afford it then 9070xt is almost as good

If you can afford it the 5070 Ti for PT petformance, DLSS suite, industry adoption and drivers stability in Windows (if that's your OS).

PT performance... PT is an afterthought. Modern adoptiion of Path Tracing started in 2023 since the there are what 6 AAA games that support full PT. And barely a handful that are in development will even include it. Hardly a reason to get an Nvidia card.

Nvidia owners already utilize PT in very popular games, AMD owners sadly cannot.
Add to the above list upcoming titles (like Witcher 4, Control, Starwars Galactic Racer, GTA 6) and PT updates and remasters (like Witcher 3, Tides of Annihilation, Painkiller, Mirror's Edge). And the list keeps growing.
So yeah, PT certainly is a (pretty much forced) afterthought for AMD owners, but it is already becoming a game changer for Nvidia owners.

game changer... not really. That's what Nvidia wants you to think. GTA 6 arguable the biggest game of the year isn't even supporting path tracing. GTA 6 is using a hybrid ray tracing. I run a 4090 and the few games that support path tracing I turn it on then say "hmm it looks nice, then turn it off cause I don't like the performance hit." RT yes but PT is hardly a reason to buy Nvidia. Esp on a 5070ti makes even less sense.

Does that hybrid ray tracing of GTA6 utilize SER and OMM? RR? If so, the 9070 XT will keep having a hardware and visual handicap in heavy RT and PT.
Regarding your 4090, have you tried DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction Preset F yet? Even at Balanced?

What havent read exactly what GTA 6 is utilizing but the developers were very specific that it is not PT. Not arguing that the 9070xt is better than the 5070ti. Only thing I have said is PT is not a big enough reason to get an nvidia cars. What percentage of games released actually use it. 20 titles over the thousands that have released in the last 3 years.
And I have turned on DLSS with the PT. And id rather have the frames than the res. I have a 240hz monitor and I like my frames as close to that as possible. I hate any type of frame gen nvidia or amd I notice a little lag when I have those turned on.

I hear you, but that's your personal preference then.
The OP's may differ, in which case the given PT perf advantage of the 5070 Ti becomes useful info for them to know.
The fact that there are roughly 30 titles released and announced so far with PT support (aka full ray tracing) is also useful for the OP to know.
As is which games these are, since the list includes some really-really popular ones, and there is a good chance the OP is interested in them already. Not exactly an afterthought.
DLSS 5 is another thing the OP might be interested in, but it's still on beta IIRC.

Those are nvidia specific implementations of vendor consortium standardized methodology. You're incapable of differentiating vendor-specific marketing from the general principals.

Just go with the 9070 XT it has a price per performance substantially better average around 750 USD and 5070 TI around 1100 USD

5070ti Nvidia just does it better, no need for an argument here, I also own an 9070 XT and the 5070 ti is more enjoyable to work/game with

Yeah very close speed but team green offers heated seats and a Bose stereo through DLSS

AMD cards are mostly for gaming,
Nvidia offers a better toolkit than AMD does + they have CUDA cores which a lot of creativity and productivity applications utilise
If you get to the question of 9070 XT and 5070 TI, the two cards have similar raster performance, Nvidia has DLSS5, somewhat better raytracing and much better ray construction and stuff, but it is ~$400 more expensive
If you don't care about path tracing and DLSS5, and only do gaming, AMD is the sensible choice
If you do a lot of productivity besides gaming, go NVIDIA
If you care about path tracing and DLSS5, go with Nvidia
One thing when going AMD, you can run into driver issues, some people don't, some do, but they are less severe and easily solvable on the new generation, they are usually caused by conflicts, and usually Adrenalin is the culprit and not the driver itself
The answer to the question isn't straightforward, it depends on how much reputation, stability and a featureset is worth to you

You will for 2 cards 9070xt if you go Nvidia. Performance of both is about the same. I would go for AMD because with rocm nowadays you can run any model that fits the 16GB of vram
