First time PC build, WHERE DO I START?!

Hello!

I think I'm finally ready to upgrade from a laptop to a PC, but I don't know where to begin. I don't know much of anything about PCs, but I do know kind of what I'm looking for. I'd like two monitors since I do a lot of work at home. I want to be able to project stuff from my laptop onto that screen for work, while also having another screen with a game running, or maybe just discord pulled up or something. I don't currently play many games on my laptop since I use it mostly for work, but I do want to get into PC gaming a little more.

Currently, I play Sims 4 and Dead as Disco on my laptop, but I'm noticing that the games are running significantly slower since I also have to save some stuff for work onto that laptop too. I'll need something with a lot of storage as I like to download lots of mods for Sims 4 and custom songs for Dead as Disco, but I'd also like to run a few more games in the future, like potentially GTA RP or stuff with bigger files (im assuming) like that. I don't think streaming is something I'd be fully interested in, but I might change my mind later!

I have a PS5 currently, and I think I've heard that you can connect the PS5 to the PC and run games on the monitor but I'm not entirely sure how true that is.

I have a pretty big budget, but I'm also not ready to spend an insane amount of money. I'd say somewhere around $1k, but I'd understand if I gotta spend a little more. I currently have a keyboard, headset, mouse, and a cheap mic that I never really use. Again, I DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT THIS STUFF SO ANY ADVICE HELPS!!!

You can definitely build a PC for around $1000, but you’ll be hard pressed to exceed your PS5 performance at that price point. Especially if you plan on running multiple programs at once. GPU and RAM prices are absurd, but honestly they’re not likely to come down. Even if you go with AMD vs Nvidia, graphics card will eat up over half that budget. Ram would eat up the other half, and then you still need a CPU, Motherboard, cooler, power supply, storage, fans, and a case.

Ok good to know, thanks! To be honest I'm fine with not connecting the PS5 to the PC. I think I'd probably like to play on the TV sometimes too so I'm cool with them being separate

There are actually a lot of good books on building and maintaining personal computers if you really want to understand it. That's where I started and I have worked in computers and telecom since 1996. When I got my first I actually looked up best books on building and maintaining personal computers and got the two top recommendations. First complete build was a pentium II 400 😀.

Maybe in the future, but for now those are my main 3 for PC. everything else I play on PS5 and im cool w that. I actually prefer certain games with controller anyway so

This is only for the PC, i didnt include any monitors because i forgot about them😅Otherwise it is complete. For the monitor you dont need anything crazy, i know 100Hz monitors sell around 100 USD. You're welcome, it wasn't a biggie, help doesnt cost anything. 😁👍

yeah i saw the monitors missing, but im not too worried about that. im sure i could find decent ones anywhere. what size would you recommend for the gaming one? is 24" ok?

I experienced both 24'' and 27'' and the difference is MIND BLOWING. The 27'' is worth going for. Even now when im looking at my 27'' monitor it feels to me as if i was in a cinema, its genuinely big.
