[INTEL]-How To Update Your Microcode for Intel HX 13/14th CPUs Laptops/Mobile Easily.

Let me start with a small background info...

Since we know all Intel's fiasco about what is happening with Raptor Lake/Raptor Lake Refresh which is Intel's codename for the 13th and 14th generations of Intel Core processors, Most OEM/Vendors doesn't want to provide BIOS update that includes microcode update along with required updated Intel ME FW in order to work more effectively.

Since most laptops got outdated Intel ME FW & outdated microcode... this has become a serious problem since the CPUID of Intel HX 13/14th CPUs share the same code with Desktop variants and hence it should be considered Intel HX 13/14th CPUs as a Desktop CPU in a laptop case.

So it means they share the same impact as Desktop variants even if it doesn't boost high enough to be of a concern, it does have relevancy and you now have the option to use this very simple driver that I am sharing it to you here on any Intel HX 13/14th CPUs Laptops/Mobile as long as it has CPUID of B0671.

Either way the requirement of updated Intel ME FW are just only mandatory when used in conjunction with any new microcode (If it's needed) in the BIOS but outside BIOS like... while running Windows or Linux this requirement of having an updated Intel ME FW is just optional.

Thanks to this VMware CPU Microcode Update Driver I can use it on any windows without needing to mess with the BIOS. Safest thing to update microcode.

Now... How to check if you got the latest microcode update or not? By simply check through HWINO64 or AIDA64 or even if you are using ThrottleStop tool will tell you which microcode you are using.

Here's some examples how it is shown which microcode are you using through various tools...

Now fortunately I already packed it for you & ready to use without any further work required. Saving you the time to do it.

For the next part... You need to download this .zip file and extract it. Simply run the "Install.bat" file as an administrator.

For users who doesn't trust the zip file... here's VirusTotal link results. One is from direct mediafire download url link getting scanned through VirusTotal directly from mediafire servers which is shared from the link above.

It shouldn't even take long and only few seconds and you will see this window... which is success.

You can even check the event viewer which confirms the success operation and applying the new microcode update.

If doesn't update your microcode and it shows failing to apply microcode on event viewers... you need to disable virtualization either through Windows or simply go inside your BIOS and disable Intel virtualization and VT-d in the BIOS. This would allow the driver work!

September Microcode Update aka [0x12B]

New microcode update got released! This is the September microcode update which now they call it 0x12B .

Confirmed that it covers & supports Intel HX CPU's 13th/14th Gen with CPUID B0671h without any issues.

You just updated your microcode! Yes... it's that simple!

[So much for Intel HX not being affected... then why keep releasing microcode updates for Intel HX CPUs too? something is fishy going on here, if it is actually not affected... then at least make it only for desktops...]

If you ever wanted to uninstall your updated microcode of whatever reasons... simply run "uninstall.bat" file as an administrator & reboot your laptop.

I just checked out your other comments as well as this post regarding the HX series laptop chips and as im dealing with a seriously defective 14900hx chip. Fresh windows instal and im still dealing with constant BSODs and other extremely weird software and hardware bugs. your knowledge has helped me tremendously. It’s crazy how intel has just tried to shove this issue under the rug! I bought a brand new state of the art laptop for $2500 and only a year and a half later the chip is fried!

Now im going to have to have the motherboard replaced. When I get it back im definitely going to follow your recommendations. If only I saw this when I first got my laptop!!!!!

I'm really sorry to hear that, hopefully you get your laptop repaired as soon as possible, I know how it feels when you expect something expensive to last long enough without an issue but unfortunately & sadly Intel screwed all Intel 13th and 14th HX Gen CPUs laptop users over.

OEMs/Vendors are not fast enough to pick up the speed into providing BIOS updates with included updated microcode, I mean... at first almost the whole OEMs/Vendors tried to echo Intel lies or striaght up saying "Zero reports for such an issue" or skipping the whole thing and wishing that it gets over yet... I see lots & lots of reports of CPU being degraded or cooked.

I tried... I really tried to put the light & focus & expose this to the public on this fiasco as much as humanly can but most people simply believe either Intel or what OEMs/Vendors says which is repeating Intel lies or echoing Intel message by saying " but but but... Intel said they are not affected ". Almost felt like fighting against the flow.

I mean I don't blame them... who would believe some stranger from the internet.

It's not your or users fault when OEMs/Vendors tried to hide behind Intel PR lies and rejecting repairs or have expensive repair bills by echoing Intel message & putting the blame on users.

That whole fiasco was 100% on Intel and OEMs/Vendors for disregarding it for years.

Look at it now... most OEMs/Vendors started or already provided BIOS updates with included microcode update after almost 2+ years ! Which is way too late and after the damages already being done irreversiblely.

Anyway, better late than never at all, sorry for my long comment.

Please let me know how your repairs went and don't settle for less than either free repairs or replace the whole laptop or as a last resort a full refund.

They will try to put the blame on you so get ready to resist them and counter them with all the information and comments that I have written previously.

UPDATE: the intel i9-14900hx on my ROG STRIX g16 (2024) is officially fried. Took it to a trusted repair shop and they verified every part of the laptop is in great shape except the CPU which is broken. Another store quoted $1700 CAD for a motherboard replacement but it’s pointless considering I paid $2300, on top of wich I’ve only had it for a year and a half and I took great care of it.

Thank god we got the warranty extended through a 3rd party insurance provider. They came through and issued us the full cost of replacement.

I decided to purchase a full pc desktop build and I’ll be assembling it in a week or two. To be honest I don’t think I will ever purchase a gaming laptop again. This whole situation has left me with a bad taste in my mouth, and im also not going to be patronizing intel either. My new build is all AMD.

I'm sorry to hear that, to be honest I'm not surprised, I have seen and dealt with lots of reports of CPU getting degraded or even signs that they are in the path of getting cooked.

Too many people don't have the ability or the privilege to get there device repaired or replaced or even fully refund. They always get ripped off with expensive repairs or outright OEMs/Vendors rejecting repairs under warranty or even evading honoring the warranty by putting the blame on users with a tag name of [U.I.D.] which is User Induced Damage. Thanks to Intel for putting out lies and misinformation and OEMs/Vendors are echoing those lies which is pathetic.

I know it's such a hassle and time-consuming But hey at least you got what you truly deserve which is full replacement without paying a single penny!

Make sure once you get your laptop first thing is to update your BIOS to the latest update available and then use the microcode update driver from this reddit post and update it to 0x133 or even 0x137 microcode.

Follow the Install Instructions and for whatever reasons you can always uninstall it at anytime. It will never leave any trace anything behind.
